Could really use a true-time-lapse feature this weekend. Never thought I would say it out loud but this is the first time I wish I had my trusty old Red ONE back. Is there anybody in the know who can say for sure whether or not Red plans to implement a true time-lapse feature in a future Epic build? My busiest time of the year is fast approaching and the lack of this feature will seriously hurt my business.

Thanks Andrew. The variable speed feature's ability for 1 fps will work for many situations but damn-- this weekend's solar eclipse demands a 2-3 interval for one particular shot.

+1 on all the above. I do a lot of TL and the longer interval would be a blessing and to be able to have a 2 or 3 second exposure would also be greatly appreciated.
We never saw longer than 1 second exposures on the R1 so I doubt it is in the near future for the Epic considering all the noise and hot pixels from just 1 second exposures. I know the black shading will take care of a lot of that but still it seems like a bit of a wall we are hitting.

Just use a DSLR with intervalometer for time lapse. Assuming you use a decent lens it'll be higher res than an EPIC anyway (because you're shooting whatever megapickles your DSLR shoots at)

Client wants Epic R3D for this job and I will be working alone. Doing this solo on one camera is demanding enough. They will settle for 1 fps but they about had a On_Skype stroke this morning when they found out they could not get Raw 16:9. No native 16:9 R3D Raw is going to be a big problem, at least for me and the clients I work with. EVERY TIME I had to explain that Red shoots 2:! and not 16:9, there is ALWAYS a long, awkward silence followed by "What?" Why?" or "What the Fuck!"

Do they need to know?? or are you doing the post?

Seems pretty easy to just give them a cropped 16x9 from the RD3 files. Wondering if that would make them happy or are they just stuck with this need it in 16x9 to start with mentality?

BTW I do use DSLR's to shoot most of my TL. 3 Canons, 1dm2, 1dm3, 5dm2 and a bunch of glass, dolly track pan heads bla bla bla, I was only thinking it would be a great feature to have on the Epic when your working and you find your self at the top of a hill or in some cool location you have worked to get your self to and there is this great shot you just shot with the Epic real time and you wish you had your DSLR with you to do a TL.
Rather than run down the hill or back to the car to get a different camera, you could just change the settings in your Epic/Scarlett and there you go. Don't get me wrong 1 FPS is great but I do find my self wishing for the longer interval to not have to do the work in post. Along with a longer exposure to smooth out some of the typical TL problems, trees on meth birds poke doting in frame etc...

Longer exposures would be great, but I doubt it's doable. B.
I think going under 1/1 exposure time is more a type of sensor related than a horse power thing.
The nature or design of the sensor inside the Epic is the same as the Red one.
The Red one is stuck to 1/1 exposure time, I'm afraid it's the same with the Epic.
I wish I'm completly wrong.
Best
B.

+ 1 on getting time lapse implemented ASAP. I can control the interval with an external trigger but the camera creates multiple 2 frame R3D files.... and of course long exposures would be really useful too. I hope it is not too long before time lapse is implemented
