I'm trying to make some numbers and dream I can get my stage 3 email ASAP.

So far we know that the EPIC-X stage 2 has been shipping since September. Guessing from the "Who ordered EPIC stage 2? Let's try and count?" I can see that more or less 500 Epic-X have been shipped so far. I know it might not be very accurate, but the people that are receiving their Epic-X have gotten some in the 500s number, so that is a fact.

So let's say by the end of October there are 570 epic-xs. That would mean that at today's rate Red is shipping 285 Epic-xs a month.

I'm in the late 2000s, so unless things really speed up, that means that I might be getting my Epic- Stage 3 in 9 months. Somewhere in July next year.

Of course, Jim said that things will speed up. We keep seeing threads about backorder accessories updates but no news regarding stage 3. Hopefully will hear something about stage-3 soon, maybe during November 3rd announcement? But that date it seems pretty much reserved for the Scarlet crowd.

Also, has there been any announcement regarding what there will be on the Stage-3 package? Because most of the things that were going to be on stage 3 are not going to be made anymore. (Small touch screen, IO module, aluminium mount.)

I guess I spent too much time in this forum and as much as I love my Red and wish I could have afford to be on stage 2, I can't wait to get my Epic.....

Let's speculate! :-)

I really enjoy speculation when it doesn't cost anything. Truth be known, I'm not very good at it so keep that in mind. I believe Stage 2 was top-loaded with early numbered R-1s. I say that because according to the thread you mentioned it seems they quickly went from Stage 2 camera numbers in the late 1,000 range to the four thousands. I suspect the later-purchased cameras may have been bought by people who needed time to get funding and that may have carried over into their decision to wait for Stage 3.

if I'm right, when it begins Stage 3 should be in the 2000nds very quickly.

edit: And I think Stage 3 will begin in early November.

stage 3 is a concerning wait for sure. I hope the production line speeds up (not that it is slow) but i think your prediction is probably right as much as i don't want to believe it. I suspect by the time my upgrade comes round, whatever that is, a new sensor will be shipping to the early serials. Red has been pretty good with keeping to their price points so lets hope a stage 3 upgrade stays around the 10k mark.

I agree with Elsie on all points, especially that it does seem like stage 2 is top-loaded with people in the 0-2000 serial number range.

Also, they've shipped at least 1 camera serial number in the 600s (do a search on Antonio's list for "ex6" and you'll find it), so that's a positive indication that might have up to around 700 by the end of Oct.

Plus, this past week did see a lot more action on the stage 2 thread, so hopefully things will only get faster from here.

I would have agreed with you a couple weeks ago, but for all the reasons listed above, I think you'll get it a lot sooner - hopefully before the new year!

Then again, I'm in the 2000s also, so maybe its just positive thinking on my part : )

It is not unusual for manufacturers to skip numbers either when they make changes to the production line or for other reasons.

I think you're way underestimating how quickly RED is putting these out. We were RED One 2229 and already have our EPIC in hand. I'd be very surprised it takes you until July next year before you get your Stage 3.

Positive thinking is great. It is just hard to make plans when there is not much information. Maybe you guys are right and we'll see them shipping quicker. I remember when I got my red they where shipping at a rate of 500 units a month. But even at that speed it would mean another 3 months. Oh well. Just getting really anxious. :-)

It is strange that stage 3 is around the corner and we still don't know much about it, what the package contains, the logistics. If Epic wouldn't exits I'd be so relax enjoying my Red so much, but I have an important shoot in Spain late December and after flying few times over from Ny-to Spain with my steadycam + Red, man I really want to cheat on my Red with an Epic!! :-) I really doubt i'll get mine before Christmas but I keep dreaming anyway.

That's funny, we're both in Stage 3 2000s and both trying to get our camera before going to Europe : )

We're going to France for a couple months at the end of December and hope to get ours before then. I know what you mean about international travel with the the R1, its possible, but not fun or easy.

Yes, I've done the trip many times. Being a 1 man band I don't want to check in anything, so I take the most valuable things with me. Pretty much everything. I've had luck so far and they never weighted my backpack. They'd be shocked how much overweight the back pack with the redone and evf bricks etc can be. Once I could barely lift my backpack to put it in the overhead compartment. The flight attendance was next to me, and with pocker face I did my best to pretend it wasn't heavy... :-) Ah, the Epic will be different story. Let's dream we can both go to Europe with our new babies!

Are you doing the ATA carnet for reimport into the USA? I did it once, but it is expensive. how do you take your Red overseas?

Any indication on Stage 3 at all? 2012 is coming!

Just got my notice this past week for my Epic, and my R1 serial is 5384, and it should ship in 10 days. So they are getting closer to Stage 3
