Hello there.
I have a question for anyone who has either the hands on or knows Epic.
Iam building a hand held stabilizer addressed to light camcorders, and while I have designed this for the 5D-7D range DSLRS , since Epic can be a light camera too I would like to look at the possibility of flying Epic LIGHTWEIGHT or Scarlet on it.
So anyone that had hands on on Epic, can you give me a clue on what would be the weight for an epic in the lightest configuration, with a normal lens a lightweight mattebox e.t.c.
The battery and lcd can be placed at the lower end of the sled so please do not calculate as one unit, but specs and weight of these are also welcome.

Some words about the stabilizer.
This design is a complete sled with a gimbal handgrip that allows the operator
to operate with just one hand and have great freedom for running, jumping and all other kinds of accel-decel fast action with out limits apart of the weight that his arm can handle.
This is not a cheaply made device.
It houses a state of the art X,Y stage with dovetail plate and active lock,
a Precision gimbal with the lowest friction possible, a lower base that can be adjusted in x axis and a monitor mount as well as varius battery mounts at the back.
The post is a telescopic 1.5 inch Carbon fiber.
There will be an open frame model for free internal wiring of any cables needed for any camera, or a upper and lower connector box for powering and monitoring lemo connectors .
The results of this device are exceptionally good providing great stabilization
steadicam like moves with the best possible freedom for the operator to run jump climp and any other style rapid moves, and low mode configuration as well.
Please feel welcome to give me any info about Epic or Scarlet and if you have any questions please email me.
This is going to be a very affordable device providing fluid and stabilized shots
with out a steadicam learning curve nor weight and limited freedom of moves.
It can fit in a 600mm X 200mm X 150 mm case and can be carried anywhere with no effort.
Thank you in advance
Constantine

I'm afraid the final weight, including very nice glass and monitoring, etc. might exceed the comfortable weight limit for a one-handed stabilizer.

As I started out with similar stabilization rigs and am now flying a steadicam-like device, I would never go back!

(I DO NOT have had my hands on any Scarlet or Epic prototypes, these are just my thoughts on a one-handed stabilizer.)

Hello Andreas.
Iam a steadicam operator my self for the last 14 years or so.
I just completed tests with what I think will be similar to epic light weight, plus monitor and battery.
Camera BOLEX 16 PLUS 16-100 LENS- 9.5 LBS
MONITOR - 1 LB
BATTERY 2 2 LBS

TOTAL 12.7 LBS OF CAMERA LENS LCD AND BATTERY WEIGHT.
I cant say it was light but I could go for 2-3 minutes with out stop.
Iam not a big guy either.
My point is this, there is no existent steadicam operator with steadicam that can run and chase by feet what I can chase, neither jump or climp on obstacles that I can with this device.
total freedom .
This is not a 2 hand operated rig either. you can pan tilt roll using just one hand and fingers.
Also you can boom very high as well as very low.
Forget about the glidecam style handheld rigs or similar.
this is different.
Soon demos..

I'm looking forward to seeing photos and demos of your rig.

Hello Dan Iam making the parts of the prototype and I will revew it when is done as it should. My tests were done with parts of Baer bel gimbal, an old xy stage and post .
As soon as I do then you will be seing videos and stuff. Thank you for your interest.

Hello Philippe. There is no way any steadicam operator with a body mounted rig of any size from flyer to PRO and with any kind of vest and arm , that can run as fast as he could with just a one handed hand held stabilizer like this nor jump or climp.
The reason is because apart of the weight that in some cases can be light, the vest and arm doesn let him perform certain moves.
Of cource there are other devices and wheels he can use to get more speed.
But I mainly talk running with your own legs here.
The rig is at the size of a small sled telescopic from 500mm-800mm. stage is 25mm high. Not that big.
Thanks

I had named the hand held stabilizer to <The Acrobat>
as it allows the operator to perform very rapid and difficult shots
So here is The Acrobat brand new hand held stabilizer rig.
Specifications and price to be announced very soon.
Generally the Acrobat can take cameras up to 5kilos ( monitor and battery included)
Its made of 7075 t5 aluminum CNC, and has a 1.5 inch telescopic Carbon fiber post.
It has an high precision X,Y stage with active lock and adjustment with out unlocking.
Dovetail stage and plate design.
Open frame design for internal wiring, so you can drop your HDMI , HD-SD1, or other cables down the post and to the lower end, and reverse.
There is also various battery mount options.
Perfect hand held for all DSLR type 7D 5D cameras as well as light weight Scarlet and probably stripped Epic with light glass.
The Best hand held Stabilizer with out any compromises in quality and components yet very affordable .
Will be available for orders early October .
Pre-orders available from next week (website currently under construction)
Thank you for your interest.
For any info please email directly.
