Does anyone know if the Canon mount for Epic/Scarlet will be FD or EOS mount?

There is a lot of beautiful FD glass floating around out there that would quickly find a home.

It's EOS.

But you make a good point about FD.

I wonder if it physically is possible.

Hey Tom,

Is that documented somewhere? I haven't seen it.

Cheers,

Jim

Count me in on wanting an FD mount. I would be much cheaper to manufacture as well since you would have no electronics to fuss with.

I'm still a film student and I'm still learning this stuff, but I have a couple questions related to this.

I have 2 FD mount lenses (50mm f/1.8 and a 80-200mm f/4.5) for my Canon 35mm still camera (which is why I would want to see FD mount). Does it make a difference that these lenses are made for film? Or even that they're made for still photography (my plan would be to use them on the 2/3" Scarlet for cinema)? Also, I have found a $35 FD to C-mount adapter, but will that reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor (my main concern is for the 80-200mm)?

Basically, what is the practicality of using my FD mount 35mm still lenses with a RED Scarlet 2/3"?

Well you will be getting a crop on your lens by about double, so it just about makes all your lenses tele. I hope they offer the FD mount for the scarlet though. I plan to get both FD and PL, and use FD for playing around and PL for legit shoots.

Has there been any statements made about what Canon mounts will be made yet?

I would just like the option to use all my cheap canon fd glass for test work, and then rent proper primes for actual shoots.

Agreed. I have a full set as well, including a fisheye. There are no electronics either, so it seems like a cheap easy mount to provide. Those lenses would be great to play around with for effects test my post house does, and then have the Pl mount as well for large shoots.

Anyways, hopefully "they" are listening.

The crop is not double, its 3.8 compared to FF35 or a stills film camera as he is using. Hence it is not going to work very well as you will utilize the innner center part of the optics and push that way to hard.
MHO.

Just purchased a set of standard speeds for 3750 USD. Looks like my fd's will only be still lenses from here on out.

I was just thinking - the availability of an FD mount will probably be the deciding factor between me getting a fixed lens Scarlet vs a S35 setup. I'm not a fan of Nikons because of the reverse focus, and I'd rather not deal with complicated Canon EF electronics.

Please give us a dumb FD mount (or let a 3rd party make it without voiding warranty). It should be so easy to make. I just hope there's enough clearance to the sensor to accommodate the short flange focus distance of FD.

If RED want to do it all that can be done even on RED1

Canon 50mm f/1.2 FD L on RED1.

One more vote for an FD Mount. It would help me justify the S35 purchase as I have FD lenses.
