How long has it been since RED mentioned the Scarlet camera? I personally would like to see them turn off certain functions in the Epic-S former Scarlet camera for a lower price. Namely the HDR function. All I wanted was a camera that can take 35mm manual lenses on a 3k sensor. That's all. I don't want or need anything too fancy. Sure timelapse and slo-motion are great but the price of the camera is going up and who knows when it will arrive.

I think RED are more concerned about being the best, rather than the cheapest (although when you look at bang for buck, you could lay claim to them being the cheapest too).

I'd love to see an Epic Lite that was s35, MX based and shot 1-30fps that I could couple up with my Scarlet.... but it's a pipe dream (although it would be a good way to use all those R1 chips that will be coming back to them when Epix-X ships)

Just so you know, the Epic-S is actually a 5K sensor. Even when it was a Scarlet it was a 5K sensor. That was not meant to be rude, I wasn't sure if you knew.

Interchangeable Scarlet will probably have the option to mount 35mm-lenses via adapters, but you'll have to deal with the huge crop-factor.
