Hey All

I'm looking forward to being a REDUSER, and not just a REDREADER when the EPIC-S is made available to order.

I'm currently a 7D user, with quite a lot of gear, and I'm now in the process of budgeting for my EPIC-S, (plus batteries and whatever extras I need to get me changed over from 7D to EPIC), so I have a question.

With the EPIC-S not being too far away now, can I ask how much it will be, and will it be packaged like the EPIC-M?

I'm hoping for maybe a more official response too, not a 'they've said around 12k'. I'm hoping to be able to finalise how much I'll be spending, (as in, if everyone's thinking 13k, and it ends up costing $17k for a package that makes it useable, that's quite a difference).

Thanks for your time. I'm very much looking forward to ordering, (and I'd be more than happy to put down a deposit)

Scott.

Just remember this is still going to be a professional camera, and the costs incurred by it are there, so don't under budget yourself, and leave yourself room to spare incase you missed something. expect to pay over 20 grand, with bomb evf, ssd's, lcd, camera body as your base package. that's not including redmote, pro i/o module, and or other modules. you don't need all these things, but all these things should be under consideration. you could probably price out everything else already minus the camera body and see where you are at.

at least when the eos mount comes out, u can just use your 7d glass to save you some money there.

25K. That's the figure you're aiming for - fully functional, shipping, and everything (minus lenses!) included. I'd say there is a very good chance you'll come out lower than that and still have money left for glass and assorted items... but why rely on hope when you can plan for the worst? If you are on a shoestring budget, and not a working professional able to budget for this kind of expense, you might get more out of another camera or you'll simply have to wait and budget up as much as you can for when they release final specs and prices.

As far as glass goes there has been an uproar of very good to decent lenses coming out thanks to the DSLR craze and most will work just fine on EPIC-S, depending on shooting style. I recommend a look at this list (http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?54057-Lens-Package-Options-for-Epic-(1-2011)) for a more comprehensive overview. Not all lens packages possible by a longshot, but a good ballpark figure to aim for.

I'm not really interested in the price, more in the packages. Should i for instance order ssd media now already, or will the be packages, that would be nice to know.

25k? shizz. really? That makes me want to cry. I've been waiting for so long for the Scarlet S35. When it was going to be around $6-7k, I was so happy that us indie shooters had a replacement for our DSLRs that wasn't just a bit better, but way beyond, (at 3 times the price, but worth it right?). Then to find out that they're moving it up to EPIC line (and that the move will mean an increase the price), it gutted me. The $7k price was a stretch, the possible $12k price meant I'll need credit for the extra. So I arrive at the current situation, (my post at the top). While going over finances, I decided to start this thread in the hope of some more info. On the main site, the M is a 'package only' of batteries, bomb cards and case. So I hoped that the whole (possible) $12k price could have meant 'package configuration' like the M.

$25k however is a nightmare. That will put me out of the ballpark altogether. It means going down to the Scarlet, which has the 2/3 sensor that I'm not a fan of, (not to mention that at $25k I'd rather get the One body, stick one of my canon lenses on it and be done with it).

Some official word on what configuration epic-s will be available as, (will it be body only, or will it be package only?), would be awesome.

The next official word you will likely hear on prices and packages will be when the camera is released and in production.

I did some simple calculations a few days ago :mad2: and I must agree, with a brain at 13K, the EVF at 3K, SSD's for a few K's no idea on the grip and touch screen prices, but can't imagine them going for less then 2K each.. you are already at 25K roughly. I was wondering if I could reconsider the fixed scarlet (the Scarlet-c is a no go for me with the lack of autofocus), but I think 4K motion picture for me just has to wait a few more years, for now a Scarlet is possible, 4K is not

The EVF is nice, but why do you need it initially? I have a smallhd that probably will do the trick for focusing and when you can afford the touch screen, just sell off the other field monitor if you have one already..., someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think solid state drives are that much. You could just get a smaller one and have a much more limited recording time for the time being, until you can afford a larger one, to which prices keep coming down and down. You'd just have to transfer your footage more often then not to an external. As far as handles, grips....there's always a creative solution to any dilemma. For instance, I was mounting a 5d on a red one base plate/red handles/19mm, etc..., believe it or not by using a manfrotto quick release. Probably will use them for the Scarlet as well. My Occonor 50 head and sachtler legs, got them for a deal...and there good enough for me and a lot of other peeps. There's always a creative solution. Your main concern, if you want the epic-s more than the Scarlet, is the brain IMO.

I personally like shooting in the snow and the EVF goes below zero for operating temperatures, the screen doesn't.
Agreed you don't need the EVF. Totally put my own setup in there, and forgot about the lowest possible setup. Sorry, my bad.

Scott, don't forget all the used R1's out there available at low prices as soon as the EPIC-S ships...
Who would pay more than $6K - $8K for a R1 body, when the EPIC-S body is no higher than $12K - $13K ?

Just my 2 cents...

That's a possibility, good point. I'll keep my eye out when the time comes.
