So all of these various riser plates for the epic, Do they raise the epic to the point where it woks on a non industry standard Red base plate like the ET, or does it raise it to the industry standard height of arri and everyone elses plates. Would kind of suck if I have to go buy an arri plate since I milled all mine down to work with red ;-)

Nick

IIRC there are a couple of plates that raise up the EPIC to R1 height so you can continue to use R1 accessories. The others tend to raise it up to standard rod to lens heights.

Before the Red DSMC QR system was out I machined a spacer to make my R1 plate work with my Epic. The spacing is .500" to go from R1 to Epic. Easy enough to make, but I really LOVE the DSMC QR system!!!! Its so kick ass it is worth the $$$

Prost,
Rich

Thanks Alan,

But that doesn't answer my question. I don't want any of that stuff, I want to know what plate do I need to bolt on to the bottom of my Epic, to make my existing ET plates that work with my Red one, compatible. Like many people, I plan on using Epic as an A camera and my MX RED as a B cam. Both cameras should be on the same system. Right now the system I already have is set up for two Reds. I have base plates and rods. I just need all my cameras to be the same height.

I think I fully grock the baseplate scene for Epic. I've been pouring over the web trying to gain that understanding for the last few days in anticipation of receiving my Epic-M next week.

What you need is an Epic Riser. At least three manufacturers make differnet versions of them, but they are all the same from one perspective: riser height of 0.500 inches.

So if you can raise the height of your Epic 0.500" above your existing or new base-plate which holds the rods, everything else should fall into place.

This is the route I'm 70% sure I'm going to take top down:

EDIT: Correction- the difference between the lens heights is 0.4645" (11.8mm).

Viewfactor top plate -> epic -> Action Products Audio Riser -> ET 19mm Hybrid Base with ET 15mm LW Rod Adapter plus Red Graphite Rods.

From Curt Von Badinski (ViewFactor):
Red One Lens C/L to base: 107.7mm (As measured)
Epic-M Lens C/L to base: 95.9 mm (As measured)

The difference between the lens heights is 0.4645" (11.8mm).

If you are JUST looking for a riser plate so you can mount on your existing arri base plates then choices are innocenema----not sure it's out as of today--but they have two....standard riser plate and then one with XLR outputs NEXT is ET---not my favorite---i usually love ET stuff, but this plate must have been made quickly....you won't figure it out w/out a phone call i bet; Then Viewfactor and finally lest you forget the simple low cost RED riser for $100. As far as i'm aware, they all allow you to adapt your existing Arri base plates to the bottom of the EPIC.

....i ordered the innocinema plate with XLR adapters.....then if you go top plate...be sure to see what Wooden Camera has coming. A very slick top sliding cheese plate with removable rod holders....very nice setup--not ready today, but coming soon. I also ordered one of those. I currently have the viewfactor plate, but need to mount rods and more......

We haven't produced any riser plates so don't bet the farm on what I said in another thread but 11.5mm is what we calculated.

Thanks for the mention guys. We do have a riser plate that will be available and shipping within the coming month. We also have an Audio Adapter that converts the 3.5mm jacks into XLR inputs, as well as a 15mm rod assembly in the works. These are currently in production, and will be shipping within the next 4 weeks. Please check our thread or blog for our updates!

And Nick (the OP), feel free to e-mail me or contact me if you have any questions about our products, or just jump in our thread and ask away!

So what if I'm stuck on a shoot with an Epic and no riser... What happens if I mount the Red One/ET 19mm bridge plate directly to the bottom of the Epic? My rod mounted accessories will be 0.5" too high, yes. But my matte box is height adjustable, and my follow focus has enough clearance. Will it work in a pinch? Or is there a problem I haven't thought about.

Ok, thanks. Same issue with both the ET bridge plate, and the Red "bottom plate" (from the production pack)?

The Red bottom plate in the production pack bolts on from the side and the ET one bolts from the bottom.

You can use any ET baseplate and mount via one bolt without a riser.
