  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic recommended Monopod

I would get one where one button released all stages. So much better than having to release each stage at a time. Worth the extra money. I have a Manfrotto 685B that I put a ball head with a quick release. Works well and I think I spend $150 on it, but it was a few years ago. Really love using it with a DSLR as you can get some crazy angles by holding it like a jib. Don't think I am strong enough to do that for very long with my Scarlet.

Dont recall the number but we use the big manfrotto Monopods they do a 3 and 4 section unit. The 3 section monopod seems more stable but doesn't collapse so small.

I have a carbon Gitzo GM2541. Expensive, but the stages are super solid, and the top plate has 1/4" and 3/8" screws. Perfect for the Epic. You can support quite a lot of weight with it, too. I think I paid around $300.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm looking at the Gitzo 2541, what are you using for a head Nick?

I second that. Awesome monopod.

I recently ran across a Manfroto 561BHDV-1 at a local shop and was impressed enough to buy it. It is very sturdy, plenty good for my Epic-M. It's distinguishing attribute is a fold-out tripod base with a fluid gimble and a fluid tilt head. I thought it was a joke until I tried it. It works very well! It's no O'Connor, but it is amazingly useable and very light weight. Worth a look, Howie.

I have the same one. Love it. It's $179.90 after rebate on B&H right now.

Load Capacity is only 8.81 lbs (4 kg)

It is more realistically 18.81 lbs. That spec put me off at first, but the Manfroto 561BHDV-1 can handle much more weight with impunity.
