Below is a little film I put together, just to let my Epic get out of the house that day. We visited a friend who built a Pietenpol Air Camper and shot a little piece with him, mostly at 5K. Enjoy!

"Shot in Ohio", the birthplace of aviation. Very nice piece! Reminds me very much of "One Six Right". My dad is from Dayton and we spent many a time at Wright Patt. One time many years ago, our family was visiting with our children when over the PA came an announcement, "In just a few moments, we will be having an aerial demonstration of an original Wright Brothers airplane." Sitting down eating lunch, we looked down to the far end of the runway and saw the plane taking off. As we sat there eating lunch, I kept looking back at the runway and the plane was still coming. A couple minutes later, it was still lumbering towards us. Low and slow is right!

This delighted me for entirely personal reasons: when I was born in Berea, my late father worked at NASA's Lewis Research Center (now re-christened the Glenn Center). Your film stirred half-forgotten memories of the water tower I could see from my boyhood home, giant NASA wind tunnels, and especially of my Dad as a young rocket scientist. Made my day.

I went to school at Wright State, just up the road. On days I was doing laundry, I'd come down while the dryer was going and just walk around the museum. I've been many times since, and shot a few days in there. Nothing quite like the low-and-slow flying, especially in an open cockpit. Like a Harley ride on the weekend.

What a lovely little film, beautifully done. I notice he did the interview directly into the camera. Did you use a device like Erol Morris does or did you just ask him to speak into the camera? And why did you do that?
Nice work.

Very nice work Adam! Being from Dayton is 100% responsible for my passion for aviation, starting with an elementary school field trip the the AF museum. This brought back some great memories of a film we worked on with a rare 1932 Ford Air Racer.

Actually, I was flying by the seat of my pants a little (pardon the pun). I just asked him to answer directly into the lens, without anyone in the peripheral to catch his eye. As an amateur, he did fantastic. Doing this made the piece more interesting and personal. I've been wanting to do this type of interview for a few years now, and this little piece seemed like a good opportunity to try it out.
