Hi Everyone,

Please check out the below test video. Pan and tilts are very jaggy. Do not mind the drop frames, the r3d doest have it (thats another case, Cine-X can not transcode a decent mov file at the moment, but i think it is
a temporary problem).

My Project fps is 25
Current fps is 25
angle 180

same jaggy pan and tilts are present with the r3d file

Am I making a fundamental mistake ?

I see a couple of issues. You are panning way to fast for 25fps. Refer tho this thread:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?28219-Stuttering-image-while-Panning

Also, the jib you are using also has some vibration in it. Finally, your uploaded video is 29fps?

Bob thanks for your instant reply, yes the jib was not balanced properly for a quick test. The vibration is caused because of the balance.
The final uploaded file is 25fps.

I will check all the posts on thread but as far as I have read this is a general problem.

Thanks.

Its simple math, it happens on all cameras, I think...Also on film. Its called strobing, and happens if you exceed whats called "safe panning speed" An object can not move through the frame in less than approx 5 sec.

You can minimize the strobing by shooting 1/25th shutter instead of the normal 1/50th, but you will suffer double motion blur...

I think it looks quite smooth (except for the dropped frames, of course). There was very little strong strobing that I could see.

The EPIC does have a little bit of rolling shutter (moreso at high speeds) but certainly not DSLR-like (try to watch Portlandia without spotting it even in very static shots) - not what I'd call a deal breaker.
