  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC OUTFITTING - POST YOUR EPIC RIGS WITH DETAILS PLEASE

Yes I know... way too much gack! The story is... I had to build the night before a shoot, to save time on set the next morning with a super early call time. I didn't know what we would need, so I just threw it all on there and stripped off what we didn't need when I got to set. This is NOT the way I normally work, it was just the rare case of this one particular shoot.

Here's the update setup, shot with G.L 70-200mm & 100mm Macro Lens as well, offcuase shot most with RRP lens set...Quite lucky this month, 1st shot "Jet Li" begin of this month, then "Jackie Chan" end of this month...

Perry where did you get that side cheese plate? is that right from RED?

here's our (pretty simple) setup for "everyday use" - nothing special and lots of space for future improvements but it does it's job... I can add/remove/switch V-Mount and REDVOLT as needed, I have a solution for (scratch/ambient)audio, a simple small Matte Box with 2 stages (1 rotating), 15mm rods at the front, upper back and one short rail for WC A-Box... For shoulder/viewfinder/follow focus or other special uses I have to adopt/re-build it a little bit so it's no "quick-change"-setup but I usually have enough time to prep it for the jobs as needed.

had some time to "streamline" our setup a bit today... much much better now :)
(still in need for some stuff like proper lenses with donuts for the matte box, FF and so on... but this should do it for now)

Scarlet on a diet, but a healthy one...

Gini plate, handle and rods. D-Matte mattebox, Arri FF2 focus and Tlita battery plate with GMP batteries. Mic is connected via a few odds-and-sods connectors.

Epic, Deep Epic Housing from Gates Underwater Products, 10-22mm Canon Lens, Keldan Luna 8 Lights and my Rebreather Gear

Something like this, and below is what I use to be able to do what I do. Without that I would not get 100% of the shots I get.

Ketch! Love to see you still on the L series primes with all the $$ glass at your disposal. Same as when we met back in '07 testing that first archaic Birger mount. To this day, the only glass I've liked as much as the ef L glass is the fd L glass... oh, and the s16 8-64... wish I would have kept that one...

Here mine...

For a 10 days handheld shoot/doing myself the focus. 8 kg. The smallest and lightest package I managed to do.

Brook Willard top plate "FMJ top plate by ViewFactor" http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/products/epic-acc/fmj-top-x.html

The shoulder pad and battery plate are made by ActionProducts (I used only the detachable shoulder pad that I screwed on the top plate).

RED Outrigger handle http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dsmc-left-handle

As the weight of the Lightweight matte box is stressing the mechanics of the lens, I hang the MB with an elastic to the israeli arm that holds the LCD...

Now I would love to have something between the Clutch and an all in all hardware solution where cables and connections would be managed differently.
Here a rapid drawing from an idea. It would be great to be able to move up and down the level of the shoulder pad (using an attachement to the backpack system for exemple).

Pat

good idea's Patrick. More often then not most HH solutions are too tall, and top/front heavy. This is going in the right direction... down and rear weighted. Then the next issue is how to get on and off a tripod easily and re-balance.
