Wow...

think i want to set up my scarlet this way.

I think I might do the same!

Thought I'd share my mini-EPIC configuration. Since the start, I really wanted the EPIC to be as small as possible and as close to the feel of a SONY EX. Meaning...I wanted very limited "building" each time I picked up the camera. I wanted to be able to mostly put it in the case all put together with audio capabilities. Well, it's taken some time, but it's nearly there.

First, on top I put a Wooden Camera (WC) "Easy Plate." On that I put the WC 150mm Safety NATO. These are the only things that require a tool.

On top of the NATO, using a WC Nato Clamp, I put the RED Handle. On top of the RED handle I put WC 1/4-20 Hot Shoe which then holds a small shock absorber Mic holder. To the side of the RED Handle, I put the WC A-Box. Just so you understand, ALL of these things can be removed in 5 seconds by the one WC NATO Clamp and unplugging the couple cables. I do need to get a 4 or 6" XLR from mic to A-box to clean it up.

Then, on another WC NATO Clamp, I put the LCD on a Noga arm. Again, this pops off in 5 seconds. So, remove the 2 NATO Clamps and the camera is nearly naked.

As you can see, I added the Cinema Oxide Battery module for now, but heard we just got our side handle shipped.

To me, this is an AMAZING and very small/simple setup. I just brought the entire thing with me in a pretty small case for my Xmas trip. This is what I wanted from day one with RED One, but it was always such a hassle to put together and weighed far too much for grabbing for holiday shots. This really goes to show how the modularity of the camera system (and by 3rd parties--You can see how many Wooden Camera accessories I mentioned) are just BRILLIANT!

Wish the pics were better, but hopefully they give you an idea of how cool this config is. Thanks!

Kevin

(Not sure why it rotated my pics. Sorry.)

John, I think you've got a great setup.

I saw on your website that you also have the Arri LMB-15 mattebox. Which do you prefer; LMB-15 or the O'Connor O-box? And which is lighter weight?

Hi Jeremy,

Both have different applications for us - LMB-15 is clip-on only & lighter; the O'Connor mattebox has 15mm LW support but can also be used as a clip-on. If it's a clip-on only you require, Arri really are the best in this category. If you want to also use it on 15mm bars, the O'Connor is a good choice (we've also got a 19mm adapter for the O'Connor which gives it even greater flexibility).

Hope that helps.

Here you go. Love to shoot this way for handheld...

Here's our rig. Studio-style except for the last photo, which was slightly more run and gun (for a primarily studio style rig). Still waiting on a few accessories, but it's a pretty solid and simple setup. Brook's FMJ rig and battery plate, element technica EVF mount. Top handle is off in this configruation, but you'll notice it on (with the EVF removed) in the alternate setup. We're still trying to figure out the perfect balance to have both EVF, LCD and top handle.
