  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC OPERATION GUIDE

people already are using it backwards.... ( but 2 stops )
Interesting. So that means it would be possible to gain 1 more stop in the shadows, using the 360° exposure only in the shadows and the 180° or 90° exposure for the normally exposed parts ? That would be a way to reduce the motion blur coming with 360° shutter (except in the shadows obviously). I'd be surious to see how that can look.

When can we see something about the Scarlet ? :c

On the first look:

1. I'm amazed with the quality of the manual. It's very comprehensive, easy to navigate and clear. If this is beta, I can't imagine what the final will be.
2. The camera menu system is very clean, intuitive and simple. I love it. No comparision to other "usual suspects".
3. The functionality and connectivity of the camera is astounding. Now it is clear why this project took as long as it took.

(very) minor thing I noticed is that 2.39 and 2.40 are inconsistently used for aspect ratio and therefore confusing. Otherwise, the manual looks perfect to me.

An interesting read - i just spotted two errors:
Page 10: Don't know if "degrees Kelvin" is correct in the US, but I learned that degrees/° is only for Celsius. Which is also valid for color temperatures.
Page 129: It's "SDA" on the battery connector, not "SCA"

Page 11: "...white balanced 12 bit depth 2048 x 1080 pixels..." - i assume this should be 1920 x 1080 ??
Page 131: "...of the camera Brian."

Small typos here and there.

Page 11 (12 in PDF) - Use of "HDRX" in the title and "HDRx" in the body. Not consistent.
Page 14 (15 in PDF) - Under RED LCD / BOMB EVF -> "-Frame Guides..." the 16:9 at the end of the sentence is using a ';' instead of a ':'.
Page 17 (18 in PDF) - "3-D" is used on this page and "3D" in the rest of the document.
Page 46 (47 in PDF) - Should 47.952 round up to 47.96? Normally it would round down to 47.95.

Again, thank you for posting the doc. I enjoyed reading it. It answered a lot of little questions I had.

Thanks Justin. All credit to Demian, we hope to have the equivalent document for Scarlet very soon.

I can only imagine the Scarlet document would be an even easier read. But what do I know...Scarlet will be a HUGE sell for RED. I can't tell you how many of my film and video partners are waiting for it. Keep up the great work.

Great job on the draft! Feels like a take-home test drive.

With so much Epic work completed, you should be immensely proud of what you have already accomplished.

Could the input and output gain level meters have some numbers added? Or just longer and thicker marks at 25, 50 and 75?

I've also had some problems opening it in Preview. Acrobat Pro says it can't extract the embedded font 'NGRSBA+HelveticaNeueLTStd-Bd', so maybe that's the culprit.

Edit: oops
