Hi all,

Yesterday, ASSIMILATE was fortunate enough to be at RED Studios Hollywood to test a new implementation of EPIC footage in SCRATCH.

I am proud to say that I saw 5K EPIC footage playing back in SCRATCH... the camera is real, it works, and SCRATCH will support it right out of the gate.

The detail and range in the shots kinda made my brain go weird, because I was looking at something completely new and was trying to fit it into an existing category. Couldn't. It was just new and my brain had to adjust.

More than that - we were testing 2D... and Stereo Epic. It works. More awesomeness.

Epic on SCRATCH. Coming soon to a facility near you... ; )

Best,

Lucas

Thanks Lucas,

so presumably Red Rocket supports real time playback of 5K footage? Thats good news.... What frame rates and Redcode values were tested?

I'm also very interested in Scratch workflow for s3D... can you elaborate on this?

Speaking of Red 3D, let me give a big shout out to Lucas on that. Lucas and Scratch has been doing Red 3D for a long time now - I know that for a fact. Let me explain:

On September 2, 2007, at Paradise FX (Van Nuys), the world's very first Red 3D production was done with my Red 0008 and Billy Summers Red 0013 mounted on the Paradise FX Paracam rig. We shot some simple footage sequences on the lot, took the rig back inside - and Lucas cranked up his Scratch system, and cut the short 3D piece quickly and professionally. Then while we all kicked back and sat there grinning with our glasses on, we projected the piece! It was an amazingly cool and historic day...the world's first Red 3D production...and thanks in large part to Paradise FX and Lucas, we pulled it off.

Fast forward to the present. I'm not a 3D specialist, but when hopefully soon I get around to doing some Epic 3D production you can bet I'll know who to bring in on that - Lucas and his Scratch system. History has a way of being cyclical...

Cheers Luki!
