Ok, so I recently bought a second hand old style EVF... My first question to the seller was "Does it work with the Epic?", to which he responded "Yes". After receiving the EVF I hurriedly plugged it in, and to my disappointment it merely displayed a flashing solid red screen... I was disappointed, but from what I've read around here, it seemed the case was that some EVF's worked with some Epic's and it might be a bit of a crap shoot if it worked with mine... I had another EVF on a long term rental that came back, so I hoped that that one would work and I would simply swap the EVF's with my Red One... So I plugged my original EVF into my Epic, and sadly the same thing happened... Now I was really bummed!!

A day or two later I was showing this to a friend of mine, and while the Epic was powered, repeatedly re-stabbed the EVF saying "See, the same thing on both EVF's!"... Then something happened... on about the 5th stab, the EVF displayed a mostly solid Green screen for about a second or two, then POOF!! I had an image!!!! Needless to say I was Ecstatic!! So I tried the same repeated stabbing with the other EVF, and once again I had Image!!! Now I was Very Happy!!!!

My point of posting this is two fold:

1) To let others who think their EVF's don't work, know that it may not be the case after all. It seems that the Epic needs to be "kicked" a little to make it resolve what it is attached to.

2) To ask Red if they will add/enhance support for the older EVF's in future firmware updates? As of now there is no mention for support in the Epic user presets menu for the user keys/scroll wheel listed.

Although I don't own one, I suppose these observations/questions could apply to Scarlets as well...

Stabbing?? With a knife??

Or do you mean hitting the buttons?

Apparently also, repeatedly plugging and replugging works too.

But yes, would like it to work first time too.

Hey Tony, that's the spirit! Glad the older gear can work.

Usually people tell you that the definition of insanity is precisely what you've done. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

I never had much respect for this definition, sure you can consider us insane, I call it grinding.

Aprils full was two weeks ago.
Mine old EVF worked from the first try without stabbing or other humiliating encouragements.

What firmware version are you on?
Did you replace 5” touch screen LCD with old EVF?
