Hi all,

I just got back home after a long 2 productions, I thought to share a quick screengrab from my phone, which was being used as a monitor, of the picture coming out of the RED Epic-X MX Sensor with DZOFilm Pictor Zoom 20-55mm PL mount in a lit interview shot. The project is about an exploration though music with a Hardangerfele, a special instrument made in the Telemark region of Norway.

Docco is expected to be released Early 2022.

Note, this is not graded, just directly what the camera saw / the monitor:

Cheers!

BTW, I used the same set up for a few live concerts, which you can see the pic below:

Regarding the DZOFilm Pictor lens, I really have been enjoying using it, especially on an Easyrig and getting those good handheld style shots. The picture quality is superb for such a budget friendly glass. The flaring can be a little heavy and the green bubbles are a little ugly, but apart from that, this lens is first class.

Patrick, which lens support is that?

It is actually the grabber for my follow focus. The PL mount is rock solid and the lens is quite light. I have been looking into a support, but recently it has been sitting in a mattebox, so no room for a support!

Here it is here all rigged up. :P

a couple of examples finally from the Epic-X and the Pictor Zoom combi. These have been a JPG grab from Cine-X and then web optimized in Lightroom:

Nice example of some contrast

Sneaking in a little star ...

good example of contrast and sharpness

example of getting a stage light right down the barrel

Some more flaring across the front element

Some nice stars, highlight booms and still great overall contrast to the image.

I will share some more when I have time.

... cont'd, i acutally wanted to share these ones as well to show some of that "vintage" feel, if one is so inclined. I like the slight blooming in the highlights here.

Soft and contrasty

more direct light

cropped, ofc. But here is a nice example of haloing

Good luck grading that perfect ARRI looking image SOOC.

You might have to... do something... to it..

Looks perfect though!

hahah, Thanks Andrew! Let us, for the sake of an argument, call this the Mysterium-X look. ;)

It isn't perfect! but it is pretty good for what I had at hand. I wish I had an ND filter for this one and just a bit stronger light in the room. However, I managed to yield a decent workable result that I and especially my client is happy with so far. I haven't even begun going through the material yet for the documentary! Man, that is a tonne of work to be had!

Also, I was using a Hollyland Mars400S Pro vid-trans. You can send to the RX unit and also, i believe, up to 3 devices using wi-fi ... which helped me out tremendously during this job, as I was a one man band and having to sit with the interviewees and monitor them at the same time, this just helped me from looking at the camera! I could just have my clipboard and phone attached to that and go through my notes and monitor at the same time! Phew!

Hey all! I just finished up on a job and can now share some shots taken with the Epic and Pictor Zoom combo.

Love this lens already.

Also, due to YT's music use laws, the music from the bands we're not allowed. So, you will have to play your own music ...

Cheers.

Perfect! I have a digital copy of Baby Shark handy ;)

Great job on the shoot Patrick!

This lens looks yummy.

I bet its lighter than a RED 18-85 :)

Thanks, Eric! The lens is really nice! I am on a production till Friday shooting a TV show pitch/prototype. Using the exact same set up. I will share some grabs ASAP! As for the size, it is smaller than the 70-200 Canon f/2 lens! It is a small and compact zoom!

Here are some screen grabs from the latest production I DP'ed on ~ "Ukjent Klovn" tv-series pilot, to be shot here in Trondheim. Actor: Kristian Skogmo.
Shot with the Epic-X MX and Pictor Zoom 20-55mm.

Oh these are tasty frames :)

How'd you go with the Epic-X brain?

Found a 6K DRAGON with 660 hours in my country.
Win-win not dealing with international shipping and currency conversion.
It'll be a while before I get to post frames.
Hope I find a fan upgrade for the Scarlet soon.

That's awesome! Congrats! I am looking forward to what you will share! Keep me posted!
Maybe, when you Epic arrives, you can plan time off to play with it?

I will need to create a new demo reel with the Dragons capability.
The one knock for me here is that I could not do decent HFR projects.
I have to set up a few projects to show those options off.
