Yann Arthus-Bertrand the man behind this movie is one of the most prominent aerial imagers both still and motion of our time. He and the hundreds of people he works with have been documenting this planet from the air for many years. You may or may not agree with all the ideas expressed but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes things are more evident from that perspective. Me, I personally like the way things look from up there.

The earth is stupid and it deserves to die.

and why do these nature documentaries always have some one howling in a foreign chant as background music ..

nah, it's mankind thats stupid. youtube has millions of proof:001_tongue:

added this to my blockbuster queue on blu-ray, watched the first few minutes and definitely looks interesting.

Humankind, both individually and en masse, has always acted both brilliantly and stupidly-- although, alas, it seems to lean toward the latter. Our problem is that now the scale of everything including our massive engineering capabilities that can mess with ecological systems big time and our general tendency toward carelessness, aggression and short-sighted greed) is so magnified, we have pushed a lot of the planet we rely on to a dangerous tipping point in relation to our own survival and well being. But when I say we, I point mostly to the 20 per cent of us in the developed world.

Re Home: I wonder if the English narration is the original one -- perhaps someone else does.

As someone who has written narration that has been translated, I know it's tricky and doesn't always translate well. And the tone in one language is very tricky to replicate in another, especially so because of the reductionist nature of narration. It's just beastly stuff in that way.

For myself, I will wait to see the "Life" series with the original Attenborough narration rather than the probably dumbed down Oprah narration. She's a most talented human being, but not a particularly talented narrator, IMHO. And her as narrator was purely a commercial decision I"d guess.

Well... why not pack your bags and head to some other planet that is better? Obviously you are racist and have never left your backyard to experience other cultures and languages.
Typical city dweller, didn't get the message and doesn't care.

Very sad to read comments such as yours, but fortunately there are so very few in between, that if you are serious are not really worth consideration.

That is obviously to state the dramatic situation in which we are all in, and it is both a cry of happiness and Dramatic suffering, in this case both for pour planet and the people creatures, that leave in it.

I think we can all agree on one thing... It certainly looks stunning.
