:attention9ha:I'll watch it for the cinematography but not listen to it for the content. I don't like seeing films like this because its an opinion spun into fact. The fact is that we could nuke ourselves into extinction and there would still be life on this planet. Believe it or not but the planet is much tougher than people think it is. But people like to put the same frailties they see in themselves in how they describe the planet. I do think that we need to recycle more and change the way we behave as consumers. The fact is that we do generate a lot of waste. But do I think that is going to end life on Earth...not even if we tried. As in if it was our sole purpose in life to do so, which it isn't.
Also the thing that gets me is how people go on and on about the miracle of life and how it is so rare and blahblah blah blah. The fact is we haven't gone an explored the planets in our solar system and we assume that there's only life on our planet. Just like we use to think the world was flat and that we were the center of the solar system and the universe. But scientists keep making discoveries on this planet where they find life in places they thought life could never exist. Just because they can't see it right now in front of their face doesn't mean it can't logically exist. Just like other planets outside of our solar system. I remember schools would teach that there weren't any other plants out there and it was just stars, dust, gas and blackholes. But then the scientist magically discovered that there are planets moving around some of the stars we have been looking at all these years. Which to me is the equivalent of sailing towards the horizon and having the sudden realization that you didn't sail off the end of the Earth. Logic escapes scientists far too often.

@ andrew, if you really remember "schools would teach that there weren't any other planets out there..." You went to some really bad schools.
Yes, I did have some crappy teachers that didn't know anything but in the mid 90's they did teach that the only planets we know about are the ones in our solar system. Later in that decade scientists discovered evidence of planets in other solar systems because of the gravitational effects they were having on stars. Sure people deduced that there are other planets outside of our solar system before this scientific discovery came out. But before that it was speculation and a thing of science fiction.
If you think about it the vast majority of us would be healthier and happier if we had stayed in tribal societies or hunter gatherer societies.

There still are some societies like that in the world. I don't know if they're happier than us, but they pretty certainly are not healthier.
mild hijack (sorry obin, but i think you'll appreciate this)
a side note/short film also worth checking out...
a little lighter hearted, humorous at times, and yet quite compelling just the same:
http://futurestates.tv/episodes/plastic-bag
directed by ramin bahrani (man push cart, chop shop) and shot by michael simmonds (lots of great stuff).
it's beautifully shot, and stands not only with a message about our regular use (and disposal) of plastics, but also as an example of great filmmaking.
