  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC Monochrome chrome response tests

Clay,W
e shot a ton of Night exterior in savannah georgia with the Epic Monochrome, Will post a few clips/stills in a bit. ISO2000 is beautiful.

Awesome, savannah GA is my (one of) my home towns...look forward to seeing that!

Can someone post a low ISO 4K sample still as well ? I'm keen on seeing the detail this camera makes without debayer, etc.
Thanks!

Thanks a ton John, this is helping me out. I'm getting a epic monochrome, but also am mixing footage from older camera that has a color sensor with zero saturation - so i'm trying to figure out when I can and can't mix shots between monochrome and zero-saturation color r3d. I don't have enough cash to get two monochromes, so i need to mix shots between my a and b camera's. Also i am trying to determine which shoots i will need to reshoot when i get the monocrhome (so far, it's looking like inside shots of people are harder to match, but outside shots it's easier to mix monochrome with 0-saturation color). If you have any thoughts of matching monochrome epic with normal epic, would be well appreciated.

Patrick, I think you are fairly savy, so I'll tell you how:

You can shoot some test targets with both cameras and create a 3D LUT to map the gamut and response of the color camera into the very narrow ( no color ) gamut of the mono camera.
Nuke can be helpful.
When RED talks 'color science' ,it's all about the LUTS.
The thing to worry about is 'shears' or steep parts of the LUT that can lead to banding in the output mono image.
I hope that helps.

Great Idea, when I get the camera i'll post the test charts with the r3d's, and the 3dlut.
