  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC Module Cover...

Its coming.. you do mean the REDMOTE contacts right and not the REDMOTE?

Yes, exactly... the contacts on the back of the Brain.

Looking forward to seeing what you have in store. :-)

Thanks, Jarred.

The REDVolt small or larger battery.
Doesn't seem logical to make a battery plate for a 30min battery when you can use the side handle.
RED's Battery Module should solve the REDVolt issue I'd imagine.

V-Mounts are a necessary Evil for longer op time and the Action Products plate seems like an awesome idea. Brook Willard is also working on a back plate as well.

Just warning you.. if the screws are aluminum.. they will likely void your warranty :)

Titanium might be a good option.. too bad anodizing titanium any decent color sucks so bad.

While you can't anodize stainless steel, it may still be one of the best options here. You can surface bond to stainless with various electrolytic processes, depositing various oxide or carbon coatings. You can also use a sputtered titanium/vanadium process, but it's not pleasantly colored -- dingy grey, even yellow, depending on the titanium alloy used. Chromium oxide is fairly common and looks a lot like anodizing, it is very rugged and will wear similarly to an anodized finish. You can pull off a lot of colors with it. Unfortunately the colors are achieved by adding other metallic elements, which can alter the surface corrosion properties. Carbon coatings work well here too, sapphire bonds to stainless (yeah, kinda like the sapphire coating used in optics), it can be colored and made fairly resilient to wear. The down-side to these carbon coatings, especially sapphire or diamond coating, is they add some measurable thickness. But they're very tough and widely used -- to coat things like the teeth on saw blades, for example. Speaking of which, saw blades and such, we can get into carbide coatings as well... The tech to do colored carbides is filtering into the market now... I'm not sure how that works, but it exists and is becoming more common.

Sorry

Sorry

jarred, but I have to say the red screws look really cool! But if we have to live with black so be it! Just lucky to have the Epics!

A thin rear battery plate is better than a side handle when doing steadicam or 3D, where the weight needs to be centered or you need a narrow body. A simple battery plate that attaches to the camera rear would also be cheaper than a side handle since it wouldn't have all the camera controls.

sign me up...

First one out we'll go strait to you buddy... ;)

Hi Ketch, Me again..Dont know if you saw my post on the red screws on the Epic. I really think it adds to the looks! How far away do you think you are from having them ready?

No specific date yet.

NOt to worry Jarred, as I said this will come strait to you first, I will not even mount one on our cameras, till you guys pass the test, not only do I care about our
cameras warranty, but I care about our relationship with RED as a company and with you guys, and with do respect we will continue to follow proper Etiquette... ;)
