Need help! awaiting Log file from the crew on set to start a RED Ticket.

Until then, has anyone experienced the HD-SDI feed dropping out? Technician in the field said "looks like someone disconnecting the cable for a about 1/2 second. No set pattern, random, camera in record or standby. "

Firmware- Epic_build_2_v2.0.5

Trouble shooting steps completed-

Changed all cables (New).
Changed monitor.

No change.

Technician reports better performance during 2nd half of day (don't no why).

Plan on updating to 3.0 Monday.

This is the first shoot were the HD-SDI is used exclusively, we normally use HDMI. HD-SDI was tested before camera went out on the job, no problems detected, but did not test like in real world conditions for prolonged periods.

Any info? Thanks--

We use the SDI out exclusively and dont have any issues...you need to thoroughly trouble shoot. If you are positive the issue is not the cables or the monitor then look at the BNC connector on the Epic. Is it loose?
generally speaking the camera is not the source of the trouble. 90% of the time its related to cables. But if you've ruled that out you'll will need to send the camera to Red.

what exactly is being fed in video village? a single monitor? video assist, DA?
basic troubleshooting 101---test various components until you narrow down the source of the problem.
Have you hooked up another SDI source to the same monitor and cable? you need to take one step at a time until you find the source.

How long is your HD-SDI cable? HD-SDI has a much shorter range than SD-SDI or SD-composite signals.
Easy to test with a shorter cable run.

Is a decent 75ohm rated cable, or some no name unspecified stuff?

A video playback operator had a similar problem when video was going into a Q-take laptop via a video box (think it was some sort of AJA) - the video box was more sensitive than a monitor to degraded HD-SDI signals.

Mine is fix by firmware upgrade. But my friend doesnt have the luck. His sdi is screwed nd sent back to red.

I was having this issue a few months ago. One of the problems is the connector is hard to get at without tiny fingers. I got a cheap BNC "L" adapter and it fixed everything. Easy to connect, never dropped signal again.

I've had brand new cables that were bad. HDSDI is finicky. Canare cables are the best in my book.

I did the same as Christopher... works like a charm.
