Hey, guys. I've been following the recent Low Con filter discussions in the "Dragon misconceptions and clarification" thread where Jim J. stated the following:

"3. We do not incorporate a low contrast filter inside our camera as does the Alexa. While it does soften roll off, we think the user should have control of that aspect of the image. Add a 1/4 LowCon and match that characteristic if you like it. Since many seem to be lost on this point, we are now looking at adding a low-con LP filter option which you can change out with your original. It certainly gives the appearance of more dynamic range because the rolloff “blooms” or softens the transition."

I'm toying with the idea of adding a removable LowCon filter inside my Epic lens mount somehow. These two threads from the past make it seem more complicated than I had anticipated:

Has anyone ever actually tried this with their Red or do any of you have any advice on things to watch out for?

Done this a fair bit. However you do it, you'll need to adjust backfocus. Mechanically fitting a small filter is not particularly tricky, but I personally think this kind of stuff falls into the realm of 'if you have to ask how, don't do it'

We've done it for customers on our Nikon ProLock

Ha! I get what you're saying John, but then I would never be able to do anything new!
