Often enough I find myself cursing my Epic for not doing the things I want it to do. Things the Alexa does. Things The Red One does. Things a studio-camera should do.
But every now and then I'm reminded why this is the best camera in the world.
I just love this picture. It embodies everything that I love about the Epic + Kowa combo. Imagine doing this with an F65 and Panavision Primo's!!
Our kit was out recently with Jonathan Bensimon on an international shoot for an 'un-named' major multinational corporation's new campaign. The nature of the aesthetic required A) "Epic" cinemascope style imagery, and B) quick, light and fast shooting styles. Alexa's and Epic's, Hawk's and Kowa's were tested. Epic + Kowa was chosen.
I've always felt that somehow the Epic's strength, that you can configure it in 100 different ways, is also it's weakness. But you know what? With the +1 module, and all the new modules that should be coming soon, Epic is creeping ever closer to fulfilling its promise, as a camera that is not just capable in any number of situations, but one that EXCELS, in all situations.
Now bring on the Dragon!
