EPIC genlock and shutter phase

It has also to do with sensor timing details. Cant go into that here.
 
Tom, if you by any chance have logs from those cameras, please do send to you bomb squad rep. Do you have any details on the settings, connections and procedures they used?
 
How can one be sure that you are getting the Denecke SB-T with the boosted drive on the video connector to T to both cameras?

Is the Denecke SB-T still considered the optimal sync box to use with the Epic/Scarlets?
 
I'm encountering a SYNC problem prepping for a job in a couple of days, so I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and knows a fix?

Using the Screen Plane Steady-Flex rig with 2x Epics (build 4.0.10 release) along with an Ambient ACL-204 (3D boost model) timecode/sync box and the Red 3BNC-00 & Ethernet cables (connected via T connector), I can get both cameras to show TC, GEN, SYNC and it works fine, barring the very occasional SYNC showing red for a second before going back to green, as long as everything is set to 23.976fps (project framerate and Ambient settings).

I've shot multiple things using these settings and combination without issue.

However, for this upcoming job the client requires footage to be at a project framerate of 29.97fps.

My issue is that after setting the camera project framerates to 29.97fps, and the Ambient box to TC 29.97fps and GEN 29.97 F, TC shows green but GEN shows yellow and SYNC shows red. If I switch the Ambient GEN to 23.98 F, the Epic TC and GEN show green, but SYNC stays red.

So my questions:

1. Will black shading at 29.97fps in both cameras fix this problem, and if not;

2. Does anyone know what combination of settings across cameras and Ambient will give me TC, GEN and SYNC all green at 29.97fps?

I should also mention that the Epics are set to Sync In/Sync Out via the SYNC connector (the default I believe).

Paul,

I have found that some monitoring modes can throw off sync. Make sure you have your settings>display>monitor control set up so that HD-SDI output and Brain LCD match your project or possibly just leave it on Auto. If you have an EVF hooked up, make sure that matches too. If they are set to 23.976 or some other frequency that doesn't match your other settings, shutter sync may fail. Also make sure you have settings>setup>gpio sync set to genlock mode.

Jason, you're a gentleman and a scholar!

To be safe, I recalibrated the sensors for 29.97fps at 180 degree shutter, then I proceeded with switching the HD-SDI outputs to 29.97fps (they were set to 23.98fps). Lo and behold, all green across the board!

You win 1x Internet tonight and the admiration of your peers :D
