On set yesterday we tried dumping a few times but were given errors everytime saying it didn't go through. We noticed it wouldn't abort the transfer until the end of it so we figured it was a file error. Sure enough, we transferred the files separately and realized that it was only shot number 21 on the mag that has errors with it apparently. When we try to transfer it to the drives we get the following error:

"The item “A002_C021_0605SU.RDC” can’t be moved because “Remote Disc” can’t be modified."

When I right click it it reads as having over 4 gigs of data in it, but when I click on the folder there's nothing in it. What can I do to salvage my shot? And is this a common problem with Epics? I just got mine from the Scarlet upgrade. This is the second time in the past few months that data has been corrupted on my cards, this is kind of bullshit if you ask me. What if we were running a 500,000 dollar single explosive shot or something?

Sounds like it's one of your SSD's, if the problem has happened a couple of times.

What was the shot, a single long take or overcranked? Maybe try to narrow the field a bit in terms of tracking what's causing it. Did your Epic come with a new SSD drive or did you fit the one from your Scarlet? Does the shot play back in camera?

If you were running a big gig with one time pyro etc, I'd always recommend at least 3 cameras, as you can't afford to take a chance.

It won't playback in camera either, it just says "Error playing back clip." and then prevents me from navigating anywhere beyond that point of playback.

But yeah, it was a single take of a music video the whole song through (not overcranked). The SSD drive on it is the same from my Scarlet. I agree with having multiple cameras for big takes, but this is ridiculous... And my camera was just approved by RED when it was sent in for its last stupid issue only a few months ago so I don't think it's the SSD. I guess it could be one of my cards, but what does that mean then? That somehow 1,300 dollar 128 gb cards might just not work when you just purchased them four months ago?

I love these cameras but come on, so fucking frustrating. Thanks for your help though, Andy.

No problem on help - was really just trying to focus in on what the issue is... sounds like a card problem to me.

Personally, I don't run long takes - but that's habits picked up long ago when film mags dictated work flow a bit more.

However, another question... what did this shot and the previous screwed one have in common? We know they were both long takes (?) - where they both H/H? I ask this as i wonder if there's a connection issue on the SSD drive... this might only show up when it's moved/knocked around... or when you have long takes. Just a thought :)

In terms of the missing clip - put the mag aside and try RedUndead?

The previous time saw a whole card get corrupted, unfortunately. The camera was rented out for it so I wasn't there to see what happened, perhaps it was just an operator error.

I've been trying to perform the REDundead path but it always says there's some error when I try to copy it to my exterior hard drive. Can you only save the files to the computer in which your operating from? If so, isn't it kind of unreasonable to expect people to just have 128 free gb lying around on their work computers?
