So I have just got my Epic. Been having a play with getting it comfortable. My EVF Bomb only has a mounting thread on the bottom which is fine but I only have a top cheese plate so the most comfortable way of mounting it is from the cheese plate with a monitor arm and the Bomb upside down. That way you don't get a monitor arm in your face.

Only thing then is the image and UI are upside down. This is also fine, as I went through the menu to monitor settings and checked the small box that say 'Flip UI' in the 'Brain EVF' sub menu. The UI flips and all is cool. Then I check the box that says 'Flip image' thinking this would flip the image so that I could operate. The image flips but not to a point where you can operate. Basically the image becomes the right way up, but it is a mirror image. So when you pan left the image moves to the right and vice versa.

Obviously I can't operate like this without feeling sea sick. So my question is. Can I mount my Bomb EVF upside down so that I can get it to a comfortable position and monitor arm out the way and rotate the image 180 degrees or flip and flop the image so that it is the right way up and not a mirror image?

Many thanks.

Unfortunately, no, you cannot flip and mirror the video. Note, that's why the controls are labeled "Flip/Mirror UI" and "Flip Video", we current don't support mirroring the video output.

Thanks. Even the bottom side plate there you may have problems with it getting in the way of a follow focus on shorter lenses.

Is there any reason you can't rotate the image in the EVF. Seems like it would be pretty simple?

Same reason why you can't on the touch screen.

This issues should be a sticky for first time buyers.

We've had this posted far too many times.

When if it does happen...well we shall see :)

You will find a way to make it work.

Thats the beauty of RED gear ;)

"Same reason why you can't on the touch screen."

And why is that? I can change settings on my touch screen and evf independently.

If you can't, you
can't. Thats cool, I can find a work around. Just seems like something that would be simple and very handy.

It's a well known pain in the ass is what everyone is trying to say. Red knows it.

Hopefully my thread will tip them over the edge and spur on some action!! ;)

I can only conclude it's impossible. There has been so much complaining about it that the only reason they wouldn't have changed it by this point would be if they were incapable of changing it. :P

I was told recently in an E-mail that it has been reported as a bug and that it should be coming in a future firmware. As I actually asked about this recently.
My solution at the moment is actually we just bought a Cineroid EVF and that was able to "flip and flop", also a little bit cheaper than the Bomb ;)

The Quote below was taken from an e-mail I got from RED Europe.
"We’ve had this reported a few times and I’m sure that a fix was being worked on, if not already implemented in newer firmware."
