So am I right in thinking that if you want to use cine glass you don't get the 13 stops dynamic range and you don't go above 5K?

I notice the photosites are smaller on the mysterium-x than the monstro. So does the monstro need larger photosites to get the dynamic range? I would have prefered a 4K 13 stop sensor to be honest. Maybe you can use cine glass and a monsro and crop it in post.

That's my interpretation too.

They are bound to change this.

Most of us are going to want PL, and the extra latitude. If it means that our lenses won't cover the 6K sensor, that is fine.

Can they change it though? I get the feeling you hit a block on how small you can make the photosites vs dynamic range. It seems strange that PL lenses have been so overlooked and also that, with all those sensor options, there is no full frame S35 for use with anamorphic lenses.

My interpretation is that all mounts are interchangeable. So you can put a PL Mount on a Monstro and the only downside is you'll have a crop factor.

That's not what the website displays.

Yes it does:

I'm sure if there is a reason to put the PL mount on, someone will make the mount to do so. Remember Nikon to PL is easy, because the flange distance goes UP, not DOWN.

PL Mount on a FF35 Epic with anamorphic lenses. Thatll give you a great big, 4:3 chunk of sensor to mess with, 13 stops, and a huge amount of sharpness.

My guess is their reason for not originally including PL-mount as an "option" for the FF sensors was that those lenses won't cover the entire imaging circle and thus you can't use them to record 6K footage. In the same vein, the table originally showed the max fps of each camera only at the highest resolution - so as not to confuse people by saying their 6K scarlet had a max rate of 60fps, for example, and then users would assume that means they get 60p in 6K and they'd have to disappoint a bunch of people when they're forced to explain that it's only in 3K windowed mode. I completely understand the frustration here, and in some ways they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. In this case, they obviously didn't find all of the places they needed to update the mount availability information and hence there's a slight discrepancy. But it's already been clarified that should you want to put a PL-mount on the full-frame camera and record an image that won't make use of the entire sensor, you have that option.

Please cut the RED team some slack over these issues; their list has only been up for a matter of days and things are and will always be in a state of flux. It's always better to ask and get an answer than to point fingers and lay accusations.

I don't think that's going to happen... As of the DSMC brochure, the RED primes are still listed as S35 and they are ready to start shipping the 300mm pro. Nice thought though.
