2 part thread...

first.. what are you guys using for your epics.. the old red/arri baseplate with a riser? or the new high-tech looking deal from red?

looking for the least expensive, useful option..

i feel that most AC's prefer the old style..but let me know..

also.. anyone have a plate for sale?

We use both. Use the Red QR when shooting handheld as its very quick to switch from Studio to HH config with this system. Otherwise standard Red/Arri baseplate

Yeah, I don't think the bridgeplate is available yet. Also kinda hard to get info since he's not posting here anymore and no longer a forum sponsor.

Personally, I'm using the RED QR dovetail base. Really like it.

Lowest cost? The Wooden Camera system might qualify there. Otherwise, the RED QR base is probably it. If you already have Arri dovetails to clamp onto and you only need the rod clamps up front, then you just need to buy the QR plate, EPIC baseplate and one universal mount. Other than that, you would probably do best to hunt down a deal on the old-style ET Arri base and use a riser plate. Buying a new ET Hybrid plate, or even the old-style plate at full price, plus a riser plate, it will cost more than the RED QR base.

I think ALLSTAR might have a system too, but I haven't checked recently to see what's available.

I think it depends on how you plan to kit out the camera. If you are hanging a lot of modules off it, and a FIZ and need a studio base plate for lens support, then the simplest and best solution is probably to get a riser from Red or Viewfactor or Wooden Camera and use a traditional Arri-style baseplate.

If you use the camera Epic-M style - Side handle, not many attachments, small package - then the Red QR system is perfect. It's what I use, and I love it. But I'm working really small camera setups whenever I can.

Everything´s fine with Wooden Camera , ordered some accessories couple days ago and got the shipping notice the next day. So i think he just stepped out as sponsor.

The new RED system just "fits" the Epic much better. It's design is brilliant. It is very quick to hop from tripod to shoulder to Steadicam to tripod. I have the "old: ET stuff for the R1 and this new RED system is superior on the Epic-X -- IMHO.

You can use the $150.00 long dovetail plates for a super-fast & permanent solution for your shoulder mount and also for Steadicam/Glidecam. I have one bolted to my shoulder pad, one on the Glidecam and one for the tripod. I've never had a faster system than this. Worth every $. http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dovetail-mounting-plate-long-2
