Mark are you using 2 x NP-1 Batteries to power your Epic ?
totally no problem with a V-Mount adapter... we also do so as we have lots of these "lying around" from our DigiBeta/BetaSP/DVCAM-Days... You only need a single or (better) dual adapter for the NP-1's and you're good to go! Maybe not the smallest package to run with - but works totally fine! Hot-swapping is no problem when running with 2 of these, only downside is you can't really estimate the exact "down-time" as you only have the voltage-reading and no percentage-reading. But totally no problem to handle this.

What we use: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/204172-REG/IDX_NH_201V_NH_201V_Dual_NP_1_Holder.html
(when we run out of our regular V-Mount/RedVolt options - we usually keep a bunch of loaded NP-1's in our car as long as we've got the space - with like 8x NP-1 [not the newest ones but in good condition, capacity "50" I think] we easily get out an additional 2-3 hours uptime with our EPIC, and also works fine with RED ONE [that one sucks more power tho])...

it's an option not really mentioned here at reduser (as AB, V-Mount, RedVolt are much more common nowadays) but it totally works... and it even might be a "cheap" solution for starting out - just as a small heads-up to the whole NP-1 story. Not as "nice" as a V-Mount Setup with percentage-reading and led-scale for load-status but totally working!
