I mostly use my Red on a steadicam or on a Tripod.
Unlike handheld operators I like the shape and weight of the Red One.
In terms of size, weight and rigidity it is my favorite camera for steadicam.
Looking at the Epic I have the following concerns
The original Epic pictures had a flat top with threads which was perfect,
now there is 1 line of threads in the front of sensor module and no flat surface.
For steadicam we need a rigid top plate that attaches to the front and back.
Are the V mount modules complete rigid when attached, i.e. no play at all.
We need a top plate like the Element Technica cheese plate with 15 mm rods that would attach to the front and to one of the modules in the back.

Are you keeping the 2 threaded 3/8" holes with 50mm spacing on the Epic?
2 threads are very important. The 50mm spacing works well with the steadicam plates.

Is it possible to add scan invert? This would allow shooting low mode on the steadicam with the camera upside down and would save time when switching from high to low.
The ideal would be to invert the read out direction of the sensor.
If that's not possible, then maybe you could have the BNC output inverted and provide a option to invert the image in RedCine-X.

An earlier build had the option to magnify playback on the the camera.
This is useful for a quick focus check. Could you put that in the Epic.

I am actually quite looking forward to having the ET hybrid plate and an arri dovetail plate on steadicam/Epic. Give it a bit more weight and imagine the change over from tripod-handheld-steadicam: It would be FAST.

A scan invert or record invert has been built into the last build of the RED apparently (or is it something in the pipeline). It would be great not to have to turn all the video village monitors upside down when doing upside down low mode....

I can't wait to put the S35 on my rig

Hi Bob, I'm a fellow Steadicam Pilot owner. What wireless FF system is that on your rig?

Thanks,

Adam

It looks like a Bartech receiver, but I've never seen that motor before! Do tell, Bob!

It's just an old FMG6 canabalized from a Chrosziel rig, it works perfect and draws less amps, I am able to run the Modulus and the BFD for hours on the
Anton Bauer Dionic. It's a great running rig

You are a Red Machine!

Damn, MK-V rig, that's some serious investment!!! MK-V are the only guys that sell or service the FMG6, I need to get to know those guys, my next rig is the MK-V Lite.

The MK-V Lite is a good sled, you will be able to slowly upgrade it part by part to what I have got. I should know because I have done exactly that over the past 7 years. Thats right, MK-V do service and sell the FMG s. Contact Howard or Rachael about that. Howard also has a follow focus to work with the FMG s. Its not too expensive.

Panavision renting SLRs...that seems even stranger.

I am using the DSLR for the lightweight form factor, but I think the big dogs are using it for the low light capabilities.
