I think epic was made for Africa... or was Africa made for Epic?

Some quick frame grabs of my past week in the Serengeti. Epic was flawless. Mostly shooting canon zooms. I shot a lot of the crossing @ 96fps. Was amazing.

Still need power management... charging was an issue, missed a great croc kill because I was out of juice.

I too spent some time in Africa earlier in the year with my epic. Amazing imagery for sure! Definitely have to keep in mind power usage though. A guy can only carry so many batteries. Gorgeous work man!

Just quickly.

I shot with a bunch of lens. Mainly 70-200 with a 2x, 16-35, and occasionally a 24-70. I also have a 85mm rokinon which is super sharp. Charging is always an issue here. Mainly just using a inverter in the car. I'm heading up to the somalia border in Kenya to do a mass capture with Helicopters, so as they say here Bob Karibu Sana (your most welcome). No power, and only a very lightweight set up allowed as I have to bring full camping gear. I'm a crew of one here, but with friends.

I'll post some r3d in a couple of weeks, and would love to cut a quick sequence of the slow motion crossing. I found the camera great to use, simple to jump back and forth.

I have closer elephant shots. Brought my dad here for his first trip and he had to change his shorts a few times.

With the Epic being so light weight you should be able to carry lots of batteries.

when your one guy, it gets to be a lot with four lens and all the other gear. I have three v-mounts and 6 revolt. I still have to get through airports etc. I may leave some batteries here as I will be here often over the next year. I think I have a nice set up for this type of shooting. One factor is, I don't need more batteries because my capabilities of charging is not great. Here is not bad, I'm fearful of shooting volcanos in the middle of no where, where I get power once a week or two.

Are there solar panel battery chargers small enough to carry, or is that impractical?

Get GMP 230whr batteries. Last almost 5 hours each. I have two and regularly get through a standard day with only 2. Havent even used my 96's yet.

EDIT: oh of course.... airports..... Can you ship big batteries?

Also, The Epic must be revolutionizing wildlife photography and Nature-cinema.

If only Planet earth had chosen RED instead of Varicams... Imagine how crisp the shots would have been?
