EPIC 5K 96FPS motion

I want to do this with girls from Shibuya.
My money's on Harajuku girls.... imagine this girl flinging her dreads around at 120fps in 5K on stage :D

Either that or crazy schoolgirl rock bands!

We're going to be able to pull some amazing stills from 5K high speed.... will make this kind of shot very easy!

Cheers,

Paul

Yeah, I can imagine this girl flinging her dreads around: Post Apocalyptic youth branded by Post Apocalyptic consumerism. : )

(snip) Shutter speed?
Will it be posible to do 96FPS at a 1/250th of a second for example. From a stills perspective this would reduce the amount of motion blur when extracting stills and create many more usable frames for stills applications.

I posted on this in another thread and wanted to reiterate how great it would be if the Foundry and/or RED could use some type of Optical Flow tech to allow post processing of high shutter speed frames to mimic the motion blur that would have been present at 1/48th (180° at 24fps).

The idea is that if you have enough light you could just take the shutter to 1/500th to hold crispy sharp edges for stills, then fake the motion blur for the motion content you created at the same time. I see this as the ultimate hybrid stills/motion approach.

Thoughts...

+1 on Blair's idea!

Considering all the work the Foundry/Red are doing with HDRx and MNMB I don't think this would be too much of a challenge. It would make the Epic hands down the best choice for advertisements. With motion being incorporated into everything now from iphone apps/web sites/interactive billboards etc. I can see tons of circumstances where the customer would want stills for their magazine/advertisement/billboard but would also want that same still to have motion so they could incorporate it into their online version of the magazine/iphone app/website or anything else. Either way Epic makes it easier to do this because you only need one camera system for the shoot to do stills and motion but only needing one good take essentially could really be awesome.

Here goes my good night sleep.. again..hehe, can't wait!!

Please Jim, make it smoky, Hair blowing and a long Red dress ;)

ketch, you gotta pay by the minute for that kinda stuff...

Amazing, the perfect camera for me cause I shoot lots of Greenscreen footage, looks great, even considering that it has been redused/compressed and such. Looking forward to seeing the 120fps footage, if possible, would be great to see it in bigger size and less compression!

That is a great idea Blair. Or it would be nice to have a burst mode when the EPIC is in STILL FRAME mode to shoot nice crisp bursts of say 96FPS.

I know it's asking a lot, but a true hybrid system might be able to accomplish this.

I like the idea of post too, but it has to be a pretty intelligent engine to find the blurred parts of the frame.

In the MX stills/motion shoots I have been involved in (and believe me I am selling this technology) the photographers do not want to (and should not) give up the ability to freeze the action at 1/250th. A lot of fashion happens at that speed.

Here is an idea.

Find a light that shoots a 96frame burst bright enough to expose at 1/250th.

Hmmm.....

Epic-X and R1-MX mixed then washed out in a good water.

Still drying it that means later is coming even better...

Seems with this overcranking ability at such high resolution this camera will be the dominate format for music videos.

As more specifics come out, it seems as if Epic will be the dominate format for just about every genre.

(aka I plan to shoot a lot with it)

As do I. ...And lots and lots of other people too, I think. :)

RE the footage... cool stuff. Higher res link, please.

They do. It's called F_MotionBlur (part of Furnace).

RE:Vision's Reelsmart Motion Blur does that too. I've added it many a time to RED footage.

There are limits to Optical Flow though. Like a hand moving close by will blur bits of the background.

What we need is a smart version that uses stereo data to distinguish the different layers of motion in a scene.

Easy key. Although the AE that's on the Mac doesn't have Keylight...had to do a work around.

It does. Take a look at your install discs again.
