  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will I see a difference at all, assuming of course same lenses, same everything else?

OOPS! I meant "Red MX 16:9" not "HD"

Likely yes because of higher data rates of Epic, plus less rolling shutter.

Perhaps there are some other tweaks as well? Eg better compression algorithms? Slightly different setup with color?

But I think the difference would be rather small overall.

The biggest thing you'd notice would just be that you'd knock out more and better shots due to smaller, lighter and faster shooting workflow of Epic :)

All things being as equal as possible -- shooting 4K 16:9 on both R1MX and EPIC, the EPIC should still show an advantage. For starters, it records 16bit RAW vs. 12bit on the RED One. As Bruce mentioned, there is less rolling shutter due to the CMOS reset time being almost twice as fast. Of course there are also more compression options available on EPIC. The cameras are using the same sensor, so actual light response and other factors related to the sensor itself will be the same.

Thank you for you very clear response. I was under the false impression that Redcode had not changed between cams. Sigh... Yet another reason to crave our upcoming Epic.

However, I would assume that camera matching would be very easy, using Mx as a B cam and Epic as A?
