  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic 3D Behind the scenes pictures thread....lets see'em if you got'em!

Operator Bobby Booth, the bearded badass in all those Hellbenders pics.

Nice Ketch! The rig definitely looks different than the others. What were you guys shooting?

It sure is, but do keep i mind that this is an early Prototype and just about everything about it will change, especially size and weight.

We shot a little Short with the guys at E3D Nathan, and few new friends... ;)

Hi Ketch. Aren't you guys a bit worried about the huge opening in the backside of the mirror? That's a lot of real estate to catch a glint or reflection of light from someone's belt buckle from all the studio lighting, etc...
One stray leak and the shot is toast. I only say this cuz its happened to me, now indoor or out, it's covered up! Plus you may get a few extra minutes of clean 'no dust' on mirror time.

How do you like that Lambda head? We've used it with our rig, but I'm not too keen on it as of now. Definitely can execute certain shots with it that are hard to execute with a normal head, but at least with ET rigs, it makes it hard to mount certain AKS and what not. Great shots though!

Nice thread

I also used that lamba head on the feature we shot last year (pace rigs) and it didn't last too long......besides the issues you raised, we found it very hard to operate. Also used it on another shoot with a big rig......If you panning alot and or trying some finer moves it just awkward to operate.

We managed to find other solutions to accomplish the shots without the head......

Also the weight of the Lambda plus the weight of the rig was almost tipping over the dolly! the grip had to stand on the end of the dolly to keep it from tipping over!!!

Eli,

this is a prototype, and even so it had several other components to it, we felt that there was no need to build up the rig fully for this Short.

The actual Speed Rig from E3D, will hit production at a much smaller and lighter configuration, and will have its fully rigged inclosure,
but bring some insane specs to the table as far a speed of set up and controls.

Doug, the new Cartoni 3D Lambda head is a nice head to work with, but it is certainly not for all appellations, do to its size and weight, but
allowed configurations and motion control that it offers, makes this a great head!!

Hi Mr.Rossi

Sorry to ask this at this thread but would you be tourin to sicily with your Epic? I am a filmmaker from Malta. Would be intersted to fly there and see the new wonder..

Yes of course Kirk, I would not miss visiting beautiful Sicily, and have some delicious CANNOLI... ;)

Thanks Ketch.
Will look forward to checking out the speed Rig upon release.
Man, the Lambda head...still brings on jokes to the production peeps even to this day. Its very capable of handling whatever weight you throw at it, but was extremely cumbersome to use with our ENG style shooting.

Working on my 2nd 3D commercial this week......this one using a Epic/Atom rig and my C-volution lens control. Angeniuex lenses.....
