  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC 12 and 16 bit RAW

It's sentence from previous RED employee :-) "Currently all processing on Epic and compression is done at 16bit."

just don't let it confuse you. :)

it refers to internal image processing.

read what i wrote previously.

All I believe is that 16bit color depth values can be stored in 12bit REDCODE files

you have a strange way to confirm what I wrote, as all you have access to eventually is an R3D file, which is 12 bits.

many cheap low range cameras have 12 and 14 bits internal processing, only to produce 8 bit files.

and files, not internal processes, are all we have to work with.

the high numbers are always better for sale pitches

We have REDCODE files, but only way we can get pictures from it is via RED SDK.

And question is bith depth of pictures which we have via SDK. I'm not familiar with this SDK, but I believe that color depth is 16 bits.
