I think flange distance issues would prevent this, but does anyone know if one could adapt an EOS mount scarlet to easily take PL cinema lenses? (So as not to have to buy 2 different cameras with their own mounts) Ive seen adapters like this on the market, and was curious:

Yeah it should technically work... But who knows about flaring or internal reflections. Also, I wouldn't bother attempting unless you have a Ti Canon mount, as I'm sure the aluminum amount would get its ass handed to it with the added leverage of an adapter between the mount and heavy PL lenses (unless well supported, of course).

I bought that one,

Got a duclos PL mount lens and the duclos 11-16 has backfocus issues with that adapter,

I'll try again when Scarlet comes but it was made to be used on Canon cameras so...

Kind of sucks since I don't want to be switching mounts for just one lens...

And that would be relatively easy to inter-change? I'm basically at the point where I can't decide what mount camera I would like to buy, but I would like these kind of lens options to avoid buying 2 camera bodies.

Fotodiox PL to EOS adapter

Hi guys,

I heard it was technically impossible to make a PL to Canon EOS adapter but I recently discovered that Fotodiox have done just that:

The adapter is only $250. I haven't tried it but I'm keen to get one if it's any good. My friend has a lot of 35mm PL lenses and also some beautiful 16mm PL lenses that might be an option for the Scarlet in 2K cropped mode.

I can't recommend strongly enough that you skip any adapters and just get Red's Titanium PL mount.

Yes, its expensive compared to the adapters, but its the best possible solution.

What you have to remember with the adaptors is this:

Its very easy to make a gadget that mechanically adapts a PL mount lens to attach to an EF mount.

No adaptor is perfect. There will be a tiny bit of play between the PL adaptor and the EF mount.

On a 7D ... well who cares. They are crap cameras made better by using better lenses, but they still suck. (And I'm one of the happy 7D owners!)

Scarlet and Epic are in another league. They give you much higher resolution, and are much more precise systems.

The CoC is much smaller on these cameras ... and the mounting requirements are much more precise. You'll have a set up that might work, heck it may test well on the bench, but screws up "mysteriously" on sets with camera in motion.

So ... get the correct mount.

Swapping mounts takes about a minute, and yes you can do it in field conditions.

If you insist on going the adaptor route ... at least upgrade to the Titanium EF mount. Its a tighter fit, and it will stay that way.

(Of course ... getting a Ti EF mount does eliminate much of the cost advantage of getting an adaptor versus getting a Ti PL mount and an Al EF mount.)
