anybody have any experience so far doing this? there are some decent adapters out there, but there were issues with the mirror on 5d but since no mirror, safe on scarlet? would really like to run some pl glass when i have the chance. A guy up here has a full set of Uniq optiks primes for 150/day and i want to use them as much as possible. lol

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i know that, it would be great. but i scratched all my pennies for the set up i currently have since i have lots of canon glass, i have a couple hundred for a mount to get me by in the mean time but not 2k for the real one. otherwise id be all over it trust me

trevor, ill actually be in sonoma and santa rosa in a couple weeks with my scarlet, shooting some random stuff. if you know of any excellent scenery or wanna meet up or something. let me know.

I think Domenic wanted to know if there was a cheaper solution... ;-)

bingo

I totally understand, Domenic. It just doesn't sound like a very feasible solution. I would suggest renting a PL mount, that's very doable, and probably not all that expensive, when you ant to use PL glass. You're talking about hanging the weight of PL glass, plus whatever adapter, which adds length and more force on the mount, off a canon mount (aluminum?) which is not made to hold that kind of load.

FYI the mods I'm aware of for the 5D/7D actually involved removing the canon mounts, removing the mirror and digging out the area in front of the sensor to accommodate the lens.

Anyway, consider renting a mount. They should be fairly easy to come by, and really shouldn't be too expensive.

Excellent. ill look into the cost involved with renting one? any ballpark guess on what it might be?

The adapter will work, but there could be unforeseen problems. Obviously focus might not hit the marks. I'd also think the AL Canon mount might be a little weak for PL lenses via an adapter. OH and most of the cheap PL-to-EOS adapters (like those $200-300 EBAY ones) aren't all that accurate. We've had this discussion before, but someone needed to use shims to get it to probably align with their 7D... I forget who it was, but they're a RED owner and just wanted to use their PL glass for some stills.... Anyway, if that happens with the EOS-to-PL adapter on a 7D, I'd imagine even more issues with an SX (the higher the res, the less forgiving it'd be in motion).

That said, personally I'd probably try to get the cheap-o adapter to work before I dropped a couple of Gs on the official PL adapter... But that's 'cause I'm crazy like that. Plus I'm sure you could sell the EOS-to-PL adapter for most of the cost if it really didn't work out.

so i may try it. im a little apprehensive about the weight of the lenses, which my initial concern because of the AL canon mount. However if i have rail support and had lens support, that might not be too bad. shoot, maybe ill try it. what a decision to make.

oh man, that looks like an amazing option, thats the ticket, gonna get that to hold me over. THANKS
