  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Enough discussion. Place your bets.

1. Prototype empty shell shown.
2. Taking reservations.
3. Not ready for at least a year and a half.

10 million pixel resolution -
fits in a matchbox
super 65mm DOF
will actually write your script, cast and finance your film.

costs 1 dollar 97 cents - state tax an extra average of 15cents.

jesus guys - they already gave you one revolutionary cinema camera - when is enough enough. It's a pocket camera.

1. 1080p..less competition for red one

2. similiar to panny hdc-sd1 but shoots raw onto cf cards

3. xlr or mini xlr (2 ch.) connections as well as similiar video outs as Red one

4. fixed lens from 18-50 supplier w/ easy path to Red brand Still lens adapter.

5. will not write your script but will make a mean capuccino in the morning.

shipping end of the year.

1080p
1/2, 2/3, 16mm chip?
Cf card recording
Fixed lens
Options for 35mm DOF
Awsome redness
Will be so cool looking that celebrities will use em.
I don't know about lcds and evfs, but it should be pretty good.
Hd/SDI out would be nice but I doubt it.

Who knows it could be a 35 sensor at 1080p, but wait isn't that Genesis land.

Whether it's a super cine cam or a good prosumer cam I'll take 7:)

Man you suck Finner. Why did ya have to go and brust our bubble.

2K
S16mm DOF
PL mount
Up to 120fps
CF recording only
Redcode RAW only
2 miniXLR
Flip-out LCD
Size of an HV20 (without lens)
$5000

Just a guess as to what will be announced. I'd love it if it had S35mm DOF instead of S16mm DOF, but I'm not sure if they can do that.

1. 70mm chip
2. 8K
3. Redcode Uncompressed, but recordable to CF.
4. Varispeed 1-240 fps.
5. AI Assist for Framing
6. AI Analytical software for AI lighting decisions.
(5 and 6 make DPs unnecessary)
7. under 3k $.
8. Pocket-Sized for a baby's dress' pockets.
9. Invulnerable to heavy physical abuse [throwing it from at least the 3rd floor]
10. AI kung fu abilities + plasma minigun protection against thieves.
11. Self-destruct auto-function if 11. fails.
12. 8 modes of vibration possible.

I gotta stop now.

Finner - You don't know me, and I don't know you, but I gotta say that I'm worried about you man. Early on in these forums you were funny, a bit wacky, more hopeful, but lately you've been sounding a bit jaded. I know you've had some one on one time with Red One, has your experience burned you a bit? Maybe it was the release of that god awful Knight Rider remake that pushed you over the edge, but it's like... I don't even know you anymore... we've grown apart... I miss reading the old Finner.

Oh, and I think you're probably right on this one.

Someone mentioned 120fps on CF only. Red One can't do that so it ain't gonna happen here either. I also don't think they'll give a $5,000 camera a PL mount. I don't see them doing anything to hurt their marquee product.

My best guess is that it'll be a small prosumerish camera with a fixed lens with full manual control that records to Raw. Raw will be the main thing that separates it from the competition in the sub $8,000 market.

Actually I am just screwing with the scarlet fanboys that get all hyped up. For all I know the scarlet could be ready shortly after NAB?

As for jaded I don't think that is the case. Just maybe a little tired of people stating incorrect facts. The red is a great camera and I am looking forward to getting it. Is the red a film killer or better then the big dollar f23, dalsa or others? NO, but it is a fantastic camera and produces much better images then many HD cameras on the market.

So sorry if I have sounded grumpy or appeared to tear down the red camera as I do feel very highly about the camera and its images.

My guess....(Skip if you don't want a boring retread, probably all been said elsewhere in this forum)

Whatever Scarlet's shape or design or features it will be something that you'd have to be a fool or very very brave to try to use as an A-camera.

Jim is not stupid. It will not be anywhere near to the Red camera. It will not be remotely close to a viable alternative to shooting on Red. It will not be anything that presents a prospective buyer with the choice - "Hmmm, the Red is incredible, but I could just shoot my indie feature on Scarlet and look how cheap it is. 2k is more than enough." Not gonna happen. All been said a million times before. I think everyone probably realizes that by now. Not an "HVX killer," not an "EX-1 killer," probably not even an "HV20 killer."

What does that leave? I'm not sure. Maybe something we haven't even realized we need yet. I'm pretty certain that while there are going to be lots and lots of whiners about what it turns out NOT to be - it will be very very cool.

So....Red reservation holders get priority. It's something they would want. It's somehow complementary to Red.

An extra recording head that attaches to Red?
A super high speed module?
A crash camera?
A Behind the scenes/production diary/location scouting camera?
A lipstick camera to fit where Red can't?

Barebones prototype with base features enabled at NAB
First run for Red owners shipping by end of year, open ordering early '09.

My 2 cents. A final bit of speculation before Nab is upon us. :)

Is that still the case? I remember that idea being thrown out there at the beginning but somehow I thought it had gone by the way side. If that's still the case then... ah hell, who knows. Guess we'll find out in a month.

Oh, maybe it was thrown out. I'm not sure. I only remember hearing about it from Jim's original thread on the subject.

If it's not going to kill the hv20 and the than what is it gona do? Kill the DSR PDX10?

So the real question is, Is it a movie cameror a tv camera?
Can be used as both like an HVX?
