  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Engadget at CES with Ted

I had the good fortune to be able to interview Ted at NAB last year, and not only is he uber-passionate about RED, he's a super-nice guy (even more important in my book). RED couldn't have picked a better guy to be their "Evangelist."

The Engadget Chinese reporter was really knowledgeable. The main reporter somehow messed up by confusing the Epic with the Scarlet at one moment, but Ted was incredible and just used the reporter's mistake to get to were the reporter wanted to go. And I believe it was barely noticeable by the general audience.

Love that simple Scarlet configuration. Can anyone point me to what rails or mounting options are in that setup? A side handle, only?

It's just outfitted with the LCD, Outrigger handle, and DSMC Side Handle.

Thanks Bob. Would love to see more handheld configurations like these posted by other fellow redusers. This is probably the configuraion I'll be using to shoot outside of tripod, steadicam.

Ted is such a gracious interviewee. What a great ambassador for the company.

An EPIC (or a Scarlet, it must be the same weight or almost) looks small but it's really very heavy on handheld use, even with the Redvolt + Sidehandle.

If I'd own my own RED cam, I would use anyway the sidehandle everytime, not really for handheld, but because it's the easier way to use a RED cam.

Anyone notice that any time a RED article or mention pops up on Engadget the first to comment is always some RED-bashing ALEXA evangelist? ...And usually its one of the same 3 or so people, or seems to be, who I am 99.9% sure have never shot with either camera. Just find it amusing, almost comical.

Nice little interview and exposure opportunity for RED Ted. Kinda wish the "main" reporter didn't feel he needed to talk so much.

Agreed. The other reporter was way more professional and knowledgeable. Still, an interesting watch. Curious to see what they ended up shooting: 4K video of the 4K tv showing a 4K trailer? Now there's a real high quality bootleg ! :)

Journalism at it's finest. Next interview is with Phase One P65 and Sony F65 developers, but with metal implants and chain from the tongue to the nipple.

Looks like it's time for the fresh influx of new "DSLR vs RED"/"Resolution and tools do not make the artist"/ "How to make a cinematic look on Scarlet" type of discussions on Reduser.

Ted's performance is even more remarkable when you know that I was standing to one side trying to distract him :-)

haha thats funny.

On a side note I get tired of people always attacking RED on articles like these (or any for that matter). I don't know why I defend RED so much when I dont even own a camera. Although I'd love to.... I just find it misinforming and completely disrespectful to bash a product you've never seen or used. Ignorance is annoying. Anyways, if you go to the article you can see my responses as Matt Hayslett.
