Hey there,

I'm currently part of a doc-style project where we shoot around 3 hours a day. We're currently using the HVX200 with a firestore. At the end of the day we dump everything from the HD to two Western Digital RAID 1 1TB drives so we've got the advantage of RAID 1 along with a separate physical backup.

Wondering what people are doing for the RED. We're getting the RAID drive which I understand records 2.5hrs at 4k. We're thinking about how many CF cards we may need. Looking at the NEXTO for some on-the-fly backups.

Looking for solutions that are somewhat portable. We travel with a small pelican case as a carray on on the plane. We usually shoot for about 3.5 days so figure around 12 hours total.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Howie

Currently people use either a Laptop and CF card reader, or something like the Nexto DI or HyperDrive. Of those options, the Nexto and HyperDrive are the most 'hands-off' but neither offer any data redundancy. The Laptop is the most flexible, but requires much more babysitting usually, and while redundancy is possible, it's not necessarily inherent.

We are developing a product for this very purpose, but unfortunately aren't at a production stage yet, so it's not yet available. Our current ETA is Q3 2008.
