hi,

how would it be possible to emulate a RED Battery.
we don't got the real RED Bricks from RED ONE Company, so like many people know the problem is that 3rd partie batteries don't show the power on camera.

my thougts:
a)
wouldn't it be possible to have a dual v-mount http://shop.equiprent.de/product_in....html/XTCsid/f4acd06a30018025f7d4bca17b0794aa on one side a RED Brick on the other side a 3rd partie brick and so only the side with 3rd partie brick is for changing the batteries. the red brick would only for not booting down the camera and of course for showing how much power both batteries have.

b)
catching the module which is inserted in every RED Brick and make a sandwich(female v-mount+ RED module +male v-mount). i think this would work to emulate a RED Brick with 3rd party batteries.

-if someone has tested, please leave a comment

- if someone has a dead RED Brick that he don't need, i pay you the shipment before you trash it into the waste

thanks and greetz from berlin, manolo

There's a magnet in both the RedPlate and the RedBrick aligned so that attaching the RedBrick activates or completes the circuit in the RedBrick to tell it to pass info to the camra (or maybe just to tell the camera that it should display % remaining instead of DC).

Emulate this system or figure it out and I'm fairly sure you could use any V-mount battery and have the camera display % remaining.

Yeah, the problem is the computer chip in the RED batteries. Without it, you will not get any third party battery to spit out power level information to the current R1. Abel Cine's switch plate is nice, but you still have to have RED bricks. Personally, I am just putting a 150 watt battery on the camera and setting my watch for 110 minutes and then switching them out. The other options is to get the Viewfactor Origo. It does a battery read out for you.

The best and cheapest solution, i say, is the Viewfactor Origo. It's small enough to stick it anywhere on the Red camera body and serves multiple functions ie. start/stop, timelapse, ramping and of course battery life indication.
Whenever the red led light starts blinking, i know there's about 15mins left before the camera shuts down.
It's an indispensable accessory in my kit.
