  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Eminem ft. Rihanna - Anamorphic MX Reds

Chris, honestly, this is excellent. I don't think I have ever seen such a dynamic shot as the crane up on Eminem in the field. My heart skipped a beat the first time I watched it.

So when are the Red Anamorphic lenses coming?
...and more important, please, Red, do not repeat the same mistakes you made with the RPP, which have great optics but the wrapping is .... not so friendly.
There are plenty experienced professional that can contribute from their knowledge, the same way Leica did with Otto Nemenz.
 
Great job, but whats up with all the fill in the house, and the 18K shadow on the high shots in the field? As Kieslowskis DP Slamovir Izdiak once screamed at me in a masterclass: Dont be afraid(of the dark).
Really nice closeups of Rihanna, nice fall-off!
102 million views...Amazing how many people can be reached, very few people get their work seen by that many.

Can't really comment on the fill, since viewing on the internet is far from optimal. Are the letterbox bars even BLACK on the screen you're viewing the video on? If not, adjust your monitor and let me know if you still feel the same.

My 17" macbook pros glossy screen shows pitch black.
But thats not the issue, I can judge
if I like the amount of fill on all most any display. Its a individual taste thing, and not an right or wrong thing.
I dont dislike the amount and direction of the fill(top) as a lighting style, I just feel that it was not needed here, and did not serve the gloomy story.
 
I saw it on "you tube". I won't say anything more than the others guys but I totally agree. Thank you !

Really nice work. Really like Eminem he does stand alone in my opinion. I haven't followed rap/Hip Hop since the mid-late 80s-early 90s but always find time for him. Lyrically he's spot on. The video itself is very powerful and despairing. Kudos.

Second video this year I've liked with fire. Really liked the How to destroy Angels' 'The space in between'. A little darker and slightly Lynchian.

This is awesome. As good as it gets. I don't see too many music videos I enjoy anymore. This takes me back to how I used to feel about the best music and videos...
 
Well the final icing on the cake is that I just received word that my work on the video is up for Best Cinematography at this year's upcoming CamerImage Festival in Poland.

I was nominated previously but wasn't able to attend... I hope to go this year though.
