Elite Lenses

Typical american. You're forgetting the second half of REDuser. The world is not USA.

WTF is this supposed to mean ? I am a little sick of EU folk trying to tell me about Americans.

Nick

Rob posted that the solution would be not to buy. Slow motion has the monopoly though. So...

I believe that she wasn't referring the americans since the second part of Reduser is the rest of the world.

Just too bad for you US guys that the worldwide bulkdeal was foiled by Slowmo. They could have moved several hundred lenses over the counter.
Maybe we Elite lovers of Europe should go together and aproach Optica Elite?
What u say Fred?

Hi JJ,
Of course I’ve been over looking this thread so here’s my thoughts.
First of all yes Slowmotion Inc no longer has the worldwide distribution rights but only North America. This means that something can be done with the rest of the world.
As for Slowmotion Inc I have to say that a lot of people has expressed their feelings about communication. There has to be some grain of truth in that, when there is so many. I have more e-mail correspondence off this forum, to back this statement. There’s a lot of disappointed people out there and a lot of them are very and I mean very regarded DOP’s who literally feel they been treated like …. So it’s not only you RED users that have felt this way.
Shouldn’t you at Slowmotion Inc acknowledge this? Instead of going on this forum saying I’m an honest man I do honest business and if you don’t like it DON’T BOTHER (to say it mildly).
I have to say that calling me con man, claiming I’m a fraud. REALLY PISSES ME OFF. You are fully aware, by now, that all that it was, was someone trying to set up a bulk deal. If you don’t know that, after all my e-mails (that you never answered and most probably someone told you the situation as well), I certainly wouldn’t like to do business with you.
I still stand by opinion that I think it’s disrespectful, rude and arrogant not to answer a simple business letter. A letter that’s apologizing, explaining a situation which you have misunderstood the intentions for completely.
That's just as arrogant as not answering people when they are asking for your service (this is a common occurring thing with you, which I’ve noticed since a lot of people have trusted me with their opinions).
At this very moment you don’t seem that honest to me Anatoliy, you seem to be mostly loud.
You see it's simple...A simple letter back, were you would have said. I’m sorry but that’s not the way I can conduct business. I appreciate your efforts in talking good about the Elite lenses but we cannot go by this in that way.

You see Anatoliy that was what this was all about, the Elite lenses. Not you or me. It was about promoting lenses that are really good and that deserve attention.
You could have come to this forum saying I’m really sorry people but that bulk deal is not possible. I’m the North American distributor of these lenses and unfortunately it will not work like that, but I’d gladly help you in any other way.
But you didn’t. Instead you barged in saying that it was you and you only who new about these lenses. That you had 31 buyers in line and the waiting list was long and if people didn’t like it they didn’t need to bother.
What kind of approach is that? And for the record when this bulk deal went down the drain the list was 32 people. I have a strong feeling I can name by name almost every single one on that list :whistling: .

There I’m done with my opinion. As for the world outside the states I will gladly assist people who’s interested in the lenses, letting them know how and who to contact at Optica- Elite. You can ask them for prices and in what way they would like to go further with your business. If there’s a need for a buy were we gather it to one place I’d happily help out on that too.

Kind regards,

Fredrik Callinggard

Thank you for you post Fredrik. It was greatly appreciated.

One of the frustrated,

Andrew

I don't think there is anything keeping you Euroids from flying over to St Petersberg and buying some lenses. Unless maybe it is that you would rather complain about this dealer in the States. I think you should give it a rest. Cine lenses are expensive, new, old, German, British, Russian, whatever and you should just get over it. Nobody is trying to cheat you.

Since it is not classified information or delicate private content sent to this «Euroid» here, this has been received from Mr Romashkin last month on subject:

«Dear Mr Agarez,

You can contact our representative who sells these lenses the firm Slow Motion inc. slowmotioninc@sbcglobal.net., www.slowmotioninc.com, fax +1 818 982 8500, tel. +1 818 982 4400.

Is it well understood enough now?

Can we leave the nationalistic BS alone? Typical American? Euroid? KGB?
Geeze.

If slowmotion has a legally binding contract to be the exclusive distributor of Elite lenses in the USA, then tough titties folks. That's the way it works. I realize this may come as a shock to the socialist around the world.

If people don't buy them, then Elite will get the message and change their policies. It's called boycott. Something most capiltalists know about. Red is coming out with high quality and affordable lenses that will provide ample competition. I'm assuming most people will want support? Then don't go gray market, unless you have a reliable camera lens expert with machine tools to help you out.

Let the film camera users deal with this. We don't need them. Use the price list and go to competitors and get them to match or better. Cooks', Zeiss, Arri? I bet there are plenty of opportunities to avoid paying over msrp around the world. Birger Engineering will be everybodys new best friend when they finally deliver (not being sarcastic either).

I know many have more experience with this than me, but from what I know, price lists are usually more of a bargaining point, they are not written in stone.

Fully true. If you'll have voice -- I mean if you know your market, you can save up to... 40% (the Slow Motion rate). But you need to know very well their business and market rates. Anyway, in Europe you won't buy from US. It doesn't make sense to pay the customs twice. So, I infer that the Elite Optica prices are those there:

ah, the joys of import and export...

if you want to reduce your price by ~30-40%, then have an european or russian buy the lenses for you. Then resell to the USA.
Perfectly legal.

Done every second on the trade floors of this world, not only with lenses, but with any goods, services, stocks, debts and currency itself.

In Europe, its the same with Adobe - their products are ~40-60% more expensive than in the USA, and they have exclusive distributors. Therefore we import from the USA, using American businesses or, as simple as that, friend or a shopping weekend in NYC.

Indeed. Jan, you're there!

As matter of fact, did you know that I am posting not so far away from you? I am in Hamburg these days Hallo from St Pauli!

E. :-)

My only concern with this is getting support if things go wrong. Software is one thing, expensive lenses are another.
But yes, if you want them bad enough, it appears to be cheaper to fly over, get them and ship them back home then buy them in the States. Is there any chance a deal could be worked out in Canada?

Speaking only for myself, I'll wait for the new RED zoom and primes before worrying about that stuff. But thank you everyone for stepping up and offering alternatives.

Isn't Abelcine the rental house of...?

Hey guys, don't drag me into this. Abel tried to look into this when Fredrik first started considering the group buy. Because of contractual obligations between Slow Motion and Elite we be could not be directly involved and backed away gracefully. Elite lenses are excellent glass and we do plenty of business with Slow Motion so we really have nothing to say about either of them.

I will say this: they have a business model that has little to nothing to do with the way many on reduser might like to see business conducted. They are not con men or thieves or dishonest in any way. They simply choose to follow a different business plan. Sorry if it is not what you want, but it is completely respectable.

Me, I'm happy to stay out of it. Anyone wanna buy some Arri lenses? We're the exclusive US dealer! ;-)
