  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Element Technica's Red Accessories

Had the opportunity to test the RED EVF bracket from the boys at Element Technica - SWEET! The multiple adjustment capability and the clutch design worked beyond my expectations....
....and I see you're also testing a real live RedDrive in the cradle?!

Hi guys,

A big thanks to Ken and Steve for giving the EVF mount a thorough workout. We know it's ready for primetime after a week with GibCor.

FWIW the version pictured is a beta prototype. It is fully functional but not terribly sexy. We are using all the same core dimensions as the one pictured but with an improved camera interface. The production version will be about 35% slimmer as we are able to combine different components into combination parts as we move production to the CNC. It will also be lighter which is great since it is already quite light.

You will get all the functionality described by Ken with the aesthetic sensibility your camera deserves.

I promise to post images as soon as we have the first production unit together. Very soon.

BTW Yes we have a few CF rods and our experience with them drove us to develop the Ultra Rods.

not with the Optimo.

btw- where did you guys find the CF rods?

With an Optimo 24-290 (weighing in at 24 lbs.) strapped on, an average RED setup would weight in at around 55 lbs.

In those instances, the 2060 with its 83 lbs. payload would handle it quite well.

The 2575 is a beastly head, I find it's size much too cumbersome to fit into the RED shooting model of anywhere, anytime.

Hi Stephen, hope all is well, I am very interested in purchasing many of your products-- especially the EVF apparatus, ultra rods (do they both come in 15mm and 19mm?) and your other solutions for handheld. What are the "ballpark" prices for these products or possibly more appropriatetly when do you feel comfortable in releasing that info? From what I hear, you guys are offering some essential kit and I want to make sure I can plan for all the purchases. I look forward to hearing more on this matter.

Thank you,

Andrew

Stephen, I too am very interested in your products and will definitely be buying the 19mm Arri base plate. I fact I would love to have one now even though my first RED won't ship for a couple months. Will all your products be sold through RED or will any be available directly from Element? I know we would all love to see more photos of your "works in progress."

Thanks for the loan of the EVF mount Stephen! I used it part of the week with the RED EVF, and really liked it. I'll look forward to buying one as soon as they are available.

Yes, that was the camera system I was shooting with that was in the pic Sharky posted - we were (and still are) beta testing a RED Drive and a RED EVF. We really like them both...

The RED camera setup Sharky posted in his post #78 of this thread is a partial view of one of our RED camera systems that I used for a week on a recent project. The EVF, EVF mount, RED Cradle, RED Drive, and CF top rods are visible in the pic. What isn't shown in the pic is the lens, MB, and tripod I was using: an Optimo 24-290, ARRI MB, ARRI plate, 15mm rods, so the rig weight was around 55 pounds. The kicker is that I used it for several days in that configuration on a Miller 55 head with aluminum alloy sticks - and the Miller 55 performed perfectly under the load. I also used a lighter camera setup of the RED 300 instead of the Optimo for a few days, and again the Miller 55 performed flawlessly.

I have access to an O'Connor 2575. It's a great head - but heavy and not real mobile. I never regretted choosing the Miller 55 over the 2575 for that project - we had to frequently walk fairly long distances with the equipment.

We're back on the mainland now...always a pleasure to work in Hawaii!

You mentioned in your thread-opening post that you got to check out the Element Technica products in early December - but you didn't mention where you got to see them - at LART. It was good of Stephen Pizzo to stop by LART and let us check out Element's new prototype accessories for RED. Everyone seemed to really like them - I know i did - and GibCor has ordered some of them.

I could be mistaken here, but the EVF mount looks a lot like that of a Genesis. Nice looking piece.

Both the SIM and EV viewfinder mounts look super solid and well engineered. The Sim of course is pretty field tested on F900s forever and is bullet proof. The EV looks even more heavy duty. Has anyone seen both, which has the greater capability to adjust across the most distance? In other words further to the rear or front for hand held with a big lens, and further out for those of us who are fat headed. or like to use the off side eye.

suggestion for EVF mount

suggestion for EVF mount

Sorry if this has been suggested before. It's hard to keep up with all of the post.

It would be a nice feature if you can use some sort of eye piece leveler on the EVF. During filmschool, I really came to appreciate an eye piece leveler after going from a Panavision shoot with long eyepiece and leveler to a SRII shoot with short eyepiece. Makes operating a whole heck of a lot easier.

Also, it would also be nice to have some sort of leveler for the RED LCD as well. I've come to appreciate the image on the RED LCD, but off angle viewing isn't the best.

vfgadgets.com makes some brackets that you can mount your monitor to your tripod head, but I was wondering if some sort of system like an eye piece leveler could be a bit more elegant for the monitor.

Our EVF mount has the adapter to have the Arri EL3 work with it.

SIM's handle has the ability to travel from right up against the camera side, to 3 1/2 inches out, and 7 inches infront of the lens mount to 9 inches behind. The travel in front and behind is only regulated by the length of the arm....the handle comes with a 4 inch and 8 inch arm, but we can (for a very minimal cost) add a 12" if you so desire. I really have not seen the need for it, but maybe my head is not as fat as yours.....lol. (And mine is pretty big....)

Is your product on http://store.simvideo.com/ ?

I really like the cine film style of your SIModified RED Handle. With the eyepiece leveler, this is the setup I would want when on sticks or dolly. The price is a bit more than I would hope as I think we're all getting a bit financially exhausted with outfitting our RED cameras.

I'll definitely revisit this setup when I get my EVF though.
