  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Element Technica Mantis Configurations

Seems like on a Wide angle lens, the various configs might not work....

Mine arrived yesterday. SUPER nice work on the production model!
I'll test it out Monday...
Cheers,
Harry

Yes another configuration for the EVF

Yes another configuration for the EVF

Just wanted to let everyone know you can also mount the EVF tube mount directly onto the Mantis using a 3/4 handle riser and this will raise the EVF slightly (which some users have asked for), and it will allow you to use the Arri style bridge plates with rods.

Genius! How about the 2" riser? Does that work too?

Chris, we're happy with the Mantis after receiving it Saturday, but a couple questions/concerns:

-Is there no quick release type way to put the RED on using just the RED Production Pack (RED Bottom Plate, Dovetail). We put it on using the RED gear without the ET/Arri Base and there was a little slide going on. It's about 1 cm of give so that the camera moves a little bit along the plate.

-Without the Arri Base and using only the RED gear again, you cannot put rails for a mattebox through the RED bottom plate as the Mantis horizontal crossbar is in the way.

As there was no instructions on recommended setups, can you shed some light here? If the recommended advice is that we need to get the Arri 19mm Base...well, people should know that another $900 will be necessary, unless users are willing to actually get out the tool set to attach each time if they want to use Rails and not have the "give."

Thanks. Let me know if we're missing something...

Kevin

My only concern would be whether the Kipp handle would interfere with most lenses. It's pretty big and I can see it getting in the way.

Richard, forget about the 2" riser.

Using the 3/4'' riser, the Kip Handle should not interfere with the lens if you are using a bridge plate. The specific lens and the position of the camera on the Mantis (how far forward or back it is on the dovetail) could play a role. I'll try out a couple lenses tomorrow and take some more photos.

You are correct that there is no way to use the 2'' riser as it puts the tube mount clearly in the way of the lens.

Kevin,

I do apologize if there was a misunderstanding regarding the equipment necessary to use the Mantis with the Red. One of our objectives from the beginning has been to promote the Arriflex mechanical work-flow as a standard including iris rods, bridge plates and dovetails. While we thought we had included sufficient information on the web site we recognize we had not explicitly stated that the MANTIS is incompatible with RED’s proprietary base plate. We have since amended the product page with this information.

Thanks for pointing this out. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out.

Thanks for changing it to let people know.

Kevin
