  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Element Technica Handheld rig "The Mantis" now available!

Simon,
QUOTE> and are ready to spend good money on RED top-quality accessories.<
Apparently they are not THAT ready.
Why don't you build a cheaper HH rig? ;) Or cheaper lenses?
Seriously, the prices are what they are. Forget the "insider" and "outsider" argument. Use a tool that fits your budget. Either buy it or don't. Or be the one that makes high quality cheap (if that's even possible) But the constant complaining that a $5 tool doesn't cost $1 is not productive to the forum.
Cheers,
Harry

You need to remember Element is not selling 100,000's of these things the price is what it is for the volumes. Make one yourself or have one prototyped at a machine shop and it will cost you $3000-4000 for a one off unit.

personally this is the first time i'm posting here about any price, and did not follow any other thread with people complaining about prices, so i do not know what you're talking about.
anyway i was just trying to make come constructive criticism about a product i feel is slightly overpriced, since the great thing about this forum is that we have companies actually listening. so, i do not understand why you think this is something not productive.
also, it's not a matter of choosing what fits your budget, even with unlimited budget, money should be spent with care and respect.
last but not least, i do not think anyone here is trying to say Mantis should cost 400 $. Would be more productive to have a discussion about how a better price could be in a realistic and informed way. Unfortunately i'm no good at this because i do not have the right know-how, could only share my perception of the price as a potential customer.

Unless you are a manufacturing company most people have no clue to the costs associated with developing and producing a new product.

Cut in half - for what?

Cut in half - for what?

For those who are using the argument that if they cut the price in half and as a result would at least double sales - please consider doing the same to your own day rates.
Perhaps you would book three times as many days - No more work associated with that is there?
Ah, but using that approach, you would certainly make more money and your booked days would be up.
Then again, maybe you were only worth half the price to begin with. And now you need to work at least twice as hard to make the same amount.

Seriously, you pay for the quality you need for the jobs you do.
So do our / your clients.
For some, less is better - for others, nothing but the best will do.

What surprised me when saw our new 'Mantis' rig today was the staggering attention to detail. Its clear every piece of this rig was given a lot of thought by people who knew everything about how it was going to be used. We buy a lot of expensive equipment for our rental facility. This was cheaper and more flexible for our needs than any other 'competing' product. And it doesnt just work on the Red.

Thanks for letting me try your rig John and Jay. Equally impressive is the low light ability of your F35. Sony with a pl mount, still hard to believe!
