...MUST HAVE!!

I just went down to visit the mad scientists over at the ET Labortory.

They gave me a demo of their EVF mount and its amazing..

Worth every penny..

Mines on backorder, but I know they're catching up fassst

Redusers with the EVF, this is a no-brainer, buy one of these suckas.........

Couldn't agree with you more rgdfilmsRED!!!

I think that besides their rods (great ones, but I prefer the RED Carbon x black ones) I'll own in very short (as soon as they will catch up) all their accessories, and I know that they are working in few great surprises, coming soon, and I have already heard ( from a secret (I'm not talking Stephen, at list not yet) but very reliable source) that they are going to rock!!!

ciao

So, what are the exact benefits of this mount over the one that comes with the Red EVF? Their webpage is a bit of vague, only showing a pre-production cropped photo.

The EVF Mounting System provides a secure mounting interface on either style of top bracket as well as 4" of vertical adjustment and 6" of telescoping adjustment along the viewfinder axis. In addition to the linear adjustment, it also provides a rugged clutch that allows the viewfinder to be tilted to almost any angle. It will stay where you put it regardless of shooting environment. All adjustments including clutch drag are easily adjusted on-the-fly without tools.

Is it basically doing what EVFs are like on shoulder-mounted video cameras?

Martin,

The Red arm is a good temporary solution or backup if you ever lose your Element mount.. It's just too weak to support the heavy Red EVF in its current state. I did a shoot with the Red arm yesterday and it wasn't convenient. I know others have had success. It's subjective. For me, I want something that is far more functional. The ET mount lets you quickly mount and dismount the EVF from the camera body, nothing to screw in. Also, when using the ET mount, the EVF is always parallel to the camera body. The Red arm can be titled making it more of a pain to operate.

The upgrade is the way in which the device mounts to the body. In the past they used a hard bracket that made it difficult to move the EVF closer to or further away from the actual body. The new upgrade is a quick release 19mm rod the runs perpendicular to the camera body, allowing for easy adjustment and easier dismount of the entire system.

Yeah, that's very cool. I was surprised to see the $200 price bump. Glad I paid a month ago now. Mine should be here next week. I'll be shooting in SF then though. Oh well. I'll slap it on when I come home.

Sounds great. And would love to hear more about the shoulder mount. Sometimes I get the feeling that it might actually be a good thing that my Red is still months away. (But then I go outside and think: If only I could film this in 4k)

For what I can say, I truly believe that when the designer himself is a user, such as is the case with Stephen Pizzo from ET, with many many years of Cinematography behind his belt, only good things can come out of it, as the experience in using the cameras with the various shoulder mounts, do give prospectives o what is important and what is comfortable and what is a must have, as well as adding one very important factor, the capacity to slide the camera mounted on the head via the ET Arri base plate, and slide it right in to the shoulder mount, and Pronto, you are going from sticks to shoulder mount in seconds!

ciao
