Hello Shawn,
Yes I have used the EVF, otherwise I wouldn't dare to post
I dont like the RED arm for holding it either and I am buying the ET break out box, (so I fully trust ET capabilities) but as an industrial designer myself I would say that the EVF item is overpriced or over engineered depending on how you wanna see it. The EVF costs 2.950.- in the Red Store, so I wouldnt add another thousand dollars just to hold it in place. On one side I think red should redesign the arm or develop a better option. The evf is big, everyone who sees it thinks its bigger than they expected. I dont like the thing turning or falling everytime you put your eye or when you move the camera. Moreover I think the camera is targeted for its price to a different market, so I guess when it comes down to it, if you start adding expensive accessories some of the statements made by the camera start to FAIL. The Arri 435 eyepiece is a work of art. Its optics, the focus assist, the viewfinder extender is a work of craftsmanship art. Its price exceeds the price of a red one camera. And its worth the price for what it is and what it does.
The cameras I have used so far are rented. They all came with the standard red ARM for holding the EVF. As soon as get my hands on my camera, hopefully within the month of September I will try and design something more accurate, not to make money but to resolve these issues for my own use. If something cool comes out of it I will post it here and let you all know. Please dont get me wrong, I think the ET team has put together a very nice set of products, I am buying myself! I just think this one product is too much money for something intended to be a grip.
