Using the Element Technica Battery plate provides for IMO the most compact Red shooting configuration.

Interesting. Does it have the hole pattern for Anton Bauer as well? The RED mount does.

I believe I have the first prototype for these. Maybe I'll upgrade to the anodized version at some point.

I love being able to mount it off the back of the top rods for weight balance.

Still waiting on the shock mount, but right now some foam and tape is working well for the drive.

From all the stories I hear from the battery plate, I 'd never mount it on a flat horizontal plane where it floats horizontally, providing no downwards pressure on the pins.
Actually it would 'mostly' pivot round the v-lock axis, but whatever.
And be worse thou as the sprung pin cover on the battery plate is actually pushing (against the v-lock) the pins out of the socket battery terminal.

I've never had an power failure related to the battery plate, and I've always had it mounted horizontally. The Red Cradle however, I've seen it have close to a dozen failures in one day. I would be interested in the quick plate if it didn't cost more than two battery plates.

The probability is higher!

Regarding the Red cradle, you're still talking about Red's battery plate, right

i have my ET battery plate with a V-mount on the back and a V-speedy clamp for the rods. can mount it anywhere on any rod quick and easy. sweet! same as the shock mount. both are incredible and are must haves. the weight reduction alone on the quickplate is very noticeable.

I will keep it in mind and appreciate the information. If the controls weren't on the back I would probably mount it vertically. Maybe with the next camera...

Cost?

The Battery Plate costs $75.00

Chris,
can i hook your V-lock bracket to it? What's the cost of the v-lock brackets (1 set)?

ET Back Plate

ET Back Plate

The ET back plate can also be used to mount the red battery plate on the side of the camera if you want to do it. There are actually several ways to mount it, making it a very versatile battery plate mounting solution.

Here are some of the ways it can be used.

1. You can mount it on an ET top mount, Red Top mount, or Red Universal Mount.
2. You can mount it directly to the ET cheese plate.
3. You can mount an ET Speedy Clamp to it and clamp it onto a rod anywhere on the camera.
4. You can mount a V Lock to the back of it and use the ET Speedy Clamp/V Dock to mount the battery plate.

Just to clarify on the item and pricing, for $75, you get the Back Plate which allows you to mount the Red Battery Plate ($175 from Red) and all the necessary hardware to mount it. If you want a V mount on the back of it, it is $85.

Here are some photos of it mounted on the side of the camera using the ET speedy clamp. As you can see, one of the photos is just the back plate and speedy clamp, the others show the Red Battery Plate mounted on it. And since it clamps onto a rod, you can also put it in a variety of positions.

Chris,

Hey I just got the plate and V mount today, using it just like you have it pictured. Thanks for the quick service. Oh, also, love the 3/4" handle risers, they were just the ticket!

Now, how about that shoulder mount????
