Hi guys just wondering about an Eizo CG277 for "critical"color with my new mac pro.
Decklink 4K xtreme + Rocket X + sonnet tb2

What do you guys think of it?
Any tips?

Hi Isaac , thank you!
In fact my question is if this monitor is good for color critical reference?

Also want to know if working with REDRocketX on Sonnet TB2 + Decklink extreme on NmP is a great deal for 4K finish and deliveries.

Already bought the RRX and the nMP, but thinking to pull the trigger on Eizo and Decklink X4K

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!

Thanks Isaac, using this with PC? Which setup?
Cheers

I can't speak from personal experience but it looks like a great monitor.
It has color modes for broadcast and cinema - Rec 709, SMPTE-C and DCI according to B&H, and although only outputs at 2.5k will playback 4k resolutions.

Going from the whitepaper only though, I prefer the HP Z27x display as it covers 99% of the DCI P3 range, as compared to the Ezio DCI range only being 93%.

The new Mac Pro.

How are you dealing with Dragon footage? RRX?
I have a lot demand on dailies and post near Set ...
I'd like to build a machine capable of dealing great with Dragon files and Arri Raw and a nice monitor.

@ Ben

The Dreamcolor...hmm
A Thousand bucks less... seems to be such a great deal.
Don't know.

I'm dealing with it just fine, however I don't edit at 1:1 as I don't see the point in that, I'll check focus on shots at 1:2 or 1:1, but I'm more concerned about editing at 1:4 or 1:2 which plays back just fine. I don't pixel peep when I'm more concerned with the flow of an edit.

The RRX to me isn't a good investment since it only applies to RED footage, when realistically I'm handling many camera types even within the same project. ARRIRAW plays back just fine.

The dreamcolor is a nice monitor, but I'm not a fan of it's construction, and I give massive points to EIZO for the internal color probe, external luminance sensor, and autocalibration. It's pretty nice to basically wake up each day, turn my computer on, and get a note that each display has autocalibrated itself in time for me to begin working. That and their service and support is great.

Nice Isaac, just loved to hear that.
Running nmp how many cores?
Thanks for your reply pal.
Cheers

2x Mac Pro 8-Cores. One that goes out on my cart, one that sits on my desk, or when I'm doing some BIG After Effects renders I have both working at the same time.

I think the 8-Core is the best balance between speed and cost.

Great!! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Isacc ! Thanks for the info I am looking at buying a CG277 and using it with a Macbook Pro (TB 2 Retina) do you know if I can monitor in
10 bit directly from the Macbook Pro or would I need something like a Blackmagic 4K Ultra Studio.
Sorry if this is seems like a bit of a silly question but monitoring via the Thunderbolt port would I use a Display Port cable or is there a
Thunderbolt to disport cable available to connect to the monitor.
Thanks

Macs do not output 10-bit via their display port currently. It's a system level issue, and not an issue with the connection.

You can use something like the Blackmagic Mini-Monitor to go thunderbolt out, and then HDMI into your CG277. That's the way around the issue currently. But again the issue is that OSX won't output 10-bit.

Make sense?

Raphael I would strongly consider getting a separate TB2 enclosure for the Decklink OR get a TB2 Ultrastudio. Since all TB2 enclosures are essentially 4X PCIe connections back to mac, putting a 16x and an 8x card into the Sonnet will result in bottlenecking and likely other issues like audio skipping, refresh issues on your monitor and so forth. When you separate the TB accessories onto different busses on the Mac Pro, you'll help balance the load of the cards onto separate 4x PCIe slots (essentially) since the nMP has 3 "slots" from the 6 TB Ports. Which is another reason you need to be mindful of where you put your monitor.
